Thanks for the comments. I have the go ahead to build the rods. He wanted them for Christmas but that aint gonna happen, he said build them anyway. Chuck, nice looking rigs, i like the minima guide idea and these will be spinning rods as well. Once i get the blanks in hand i will settle on a seat. Thinking skeleton because a standard seat may be too long for a small reel foot. Great ideas so

Thanks for the comments. Bill he is a friend but he does not expect to get the rods for free or do i expect to build them for free. I like the idea of customizing a store bought with their names and a decal or something that will make them feel special and as suggested wouldn't take too long. I will talk with him and see where to go from here. Thanks everyone for the input. js

Thanks for reply Lorenzo, I have been doing research and by the time i buy the reel ($10+?-) and the rod components ($25 +/-) i just feel thats too much invested for a 6 year old to throw into the canal, and thats not including anything for me. I am going to suggest he stick with a wally cheapy and talk to me when they get old enough for a big kids spinning outfit unless he is dead set on spendi

Casey, After doing a lot of research on the forum for decals and graphics i also came up with the work of Nuno. The ariticle in Rodmaker about his work was amazing. I contacted him for some info and he was very helpful. I can tell you this, after purchasing the same software Mr. Paulino uses-CorelDRAW, i quickly realized that it takes years of experience with graphic software to do the kinds of

Billy, Keep up the great attitude. Hopefully no one was hurt. Belongings can be replaced and from the devastation of NERBs central a newer, cleaner more efficient shop will emerge. I watched Punta Gorda just to the south of me get flattend by Charlie in 2004. What was an old and deteriorated little town is now a beautifully rebiult and lively restored village. Much better than before the storm

Michael, The reason for my original quesiton was if the edges of the decal need sprayed so the when dipped in water the ink didn't bleed on the edges. I now spray mine after the cut and give a good coat on the edges for insurance. i had one bleed, may have been to light of a top coat but as i said i like the extra insurance. js

Does somebody make a knockoff of recoil guides? I purchased two guides to replace broken ones. The foot weld and prep is much nicer on the Recoils i ordered from Mudhole. All of the other guides appear to be just two wires side by side with no weld visible-Glued?. Now for the kicker....the wire is spiraled in the opposite direction on the original guides compared to the new Recoils. Could they be

This just in! i tied the guide on as it is and gave it a Forhan Locking wrap and it apears to be very solid and will work just fine. I guess i should have tried it first and not posted, but what fun is that.

Hello all, I am curious if i have a common problem or a something more serious? I am rebuilding a 7'-6 St Croix with Recoil spinning guides. The 25 butt guide foot wires are loose and no longer soldered together. I tried to superglue them but it did not work. My question is does the foot wires need to be connected or just tie it on the way it is? Thanks for the help.

Tom, Thats what i was wanting a confirmation on. i figure a 3000 for the st croix which is medium and a 4000 for the other because it is a heavy. Both rods will be used inshore for Reds & Trout. The shorter Stiffer Gator Themed rod will spend more of its time in his ''gator room'' den for a decoration. js

Good Morning from Southwest FLA. I have two rods that i am rebuilding. Problem is the owners don't have reels for them. I have prompted them to get reels to no avail. Should i build them and then tell them what reel to get? One is a 7'6'' St Croix. I am thinking i set guides up for a 3000 size reel and if they go up one or down one size it should be ok? Your thoughts. The other rod is a Sh

Harry, I sprayed after trimming and had only minor issue seperating. Had major issue with keeping decal straight while applying but that is opertator failer. Out of 4 attempts only one had to be coaxed to seperate. all others did just fine. JS

Its great to hear all of this. I am really excited to get into this repair. I want to learn all i can about the components so i don't do the injustice with the repair. Dennis, What kind of guides are these. The reelseat is like a varmac but does not have any inscription whatsoever. Could the blank be conolon? Mike, where do i get Flitz, is that better than CLR? i plan to soak the parts, di

Thank you Mike & John for replies. Took a little coaxing with a rubber mallet but as expected the seat is a twoj piece. Then pin is to oreint the male ferrile attached to the blank. Next project on rebuild is to remove, clean and lubricate the roller guides and then polish the seat. Then i can see if i need new ones or can use the old ones. Other than some minor surface pitting i think the

Hello Forum Members, I have a new project and need some advise. A friend recently brought me an old deep sea rod to retie a couple guides on so he could donate it to our Rotary Club fishing tournament silent (rhymes w/ tauction) this coming saturday. i told him in current condition even with the 12/0 Penn it wouldn't fetch much, but if we referbish it for next year it should fetch a pretty penny

Rex, Do a search on ''all dates'' and you will come up with truckloads of information on making your own decals. Many software options depending on skill level. I am also new to the decal thing but have learned a ton from the forum. Good Luck
