You have my attention with this thread....was thinking about a dedicated rod for surf perch grubbing here in Nor Cal and these blanks sound nice. A rootbeer blank with garnet guide wraps and gold trim maybe? Time for more ressearch.

If it is a two piece rod it is even easier, just rotate the tip 180 degrees, add a bumper guide between the 1st and 2nd existing guides and confirm spacing of the rest. Add line up marks to remind yourself to rotate the tip and you are done. Did this with a BUNCH of old 2 section rods as an experiment and it WORKS. Derek dsrtegl2004atearthlinkdotnet

I for one can't wait to try this product....It might actually cure my hate for two part finishes.....If activation with a 100wt bulb is between 100-125 degrees I can't help but wonder what my 4 300wt bulbs would be capable of at a safe distance. They are old movie lights and bright enough that I have to wear sunglasses if I am using them to dry my Createx and Auto Air paintjobs. It could be ve

He would be better off with a 6500C3 or C4 for the 17# and a 5000 for the 8#.....I don't think that the 8# would work on such a large reel due to the problem of the line embedding between the spool and sideplate on a bad overrun. I consider myself a past master of the craft. Derek

Billy V. I tried to put together a matrix of the different thread diameters in inches form several makers for a year and had to give up in disgust. Nobody worked with thread diameters, just wieghts, even after explaining to the different thread makers that their products were becoming popular with a whole new category of craftsmen they still could not help me. What little I came up with wa

A blast of air from a compressor works as well. I hear those Barramundi are a wild ride on light tackle. Grren with envy on this side of the pond....Hmmm.....I match the Frankie rod then I guess. G-Day Derek

Jeff, I agree with Sam Fox about the B&M crappie rods, they are close to being standard on the west coast for budget minded surf perch fishermen. If you are made of money, Daiwa and other asian market tackle specialists make telescoping RODS (not poles) with eyes, reel seats, etc. up to 24' in length in graphite of carbon fiber composite but they are not cheap and the shipping will kill

I have to agree and simpathize Bill B. I don't think I will ever get into the business of trying to sell rods for just that reason. In these financial times, people like me, have to go for minimum possible price for what will work. THe butt sections are often too long or too short, there are almost NEVER enough guides, or they are not properly places, and the wraps on the guides are often horr

I just found a place online that sell glow-in-the-dark safety grip tap in a variety of styles.....Combined with the glow in dark paint I am working on the resulting rod has night fishing for cats all over it....Would be fun for practical...well maybe not so practical....jokes. Look....Its the phantom fishing rod! Derek Never thought of using cork sheets.....Hmmmmm

This happens with Krylon Fusion and some gloss coats like Permagloss....It is a chemical reaction of some sort and I think this may have been covered before so an archive check may prove helpful. This will also happen with Appliance Epoxy Spray Paint as well.....It DOES NOT react like this to Spar Varnish however....Which is what I use, Derek

That is not a blunder.....That is meerly an experiment in the works..... Now touching the pretty finish BEFORE it is dry.......THAT is a blunder....and one I happen to do far too often. Sigh.....Back to the drawing board. Derek

First....Fusion DOES come in Hot Pink....It is just VERY hard to find. If you have an airbrush (I do) Createx Auto Air Paints has a NEON Hot Pink color that is so offensive it is scarey. It should be noted that this particular color does not handle prolonged sun exposire well, but the kid will love. I made a Barbie rod for a God Daughter using the Auto Air Paints. Even got some poor sucke

I was afraid that the concensus wouldbe along those line Tom.....But....Since I have it laying around collecting dust I thought I would try to do something with. Those old tredles are pretty neat. I have seen them turned into lathes, and used to rotate a potters wheel. It may just be a flea market corded power drill for me afterall. Thanks Guys! Derek

That would be a help. I can get old sewing machines from a local source as cheap as $5 if the belt is broken (an easy fix), and I want a variable spped motor for a variety uf uses as detailed in an earlier post. I know about carpet layers....When I had mine put in they did not even vacuum up their mess and really banged up my freshly painted walls so keep an eye on them. Derek

If anyone has some step by step instructions on how to make a wrapping motor / drying motor / light duty lathe out of an old sewing machine, I would LOVE to get my hands on them so I can build one and post some pics and diagrams of the process for the archives. I am working on some cheap but easy wrapping set-ups as well with parts list and approximate costs of parts. email me direct if you a

I have some great designs, but no money to build them personally. I think everyone would benefit from more photos in this section, ne ideas, new methods, etc. Derek

I have seen similal theads at local shops, some are made of Kevlar. I have been wondering about their other used as well but decided that the colors for me were just not a "must have" when Madeira Polyneon sewing thread can be had in similar colors and priced much less. Derek

I just had a problem with applying Spar on a decorative wrap. It is still tacky after 48 hours and there are areas of "snakeskinning" in the finish. I may be totally my bad though. I am presently reviewing my procedure. Derek
