It's Very quiet about these blanks, I fell in love with the xmg50's so I was really excited when these were announced, then i saw the blank weights. Not 1 blank under 2 oz. in the lineup. I'll pass on these for now. Better options for the $ IMHO. The XP bass blanks are lighter at around 60% of the $$ so I will eventually try one of those out first. Be sure to let us know how the are i

Spencer I believe you are right they are a size 17 , according to my buddy . I remember them feeling pretty thin, so i thought size 16, but again it's been a while since I handled one. OP I'm building a lamiglas right now with a similar handle, turned the insert to the same dia. as the size 17 hoods, flatened the bottom for the reel foot ....no kdps on this one tho....feels kinda tennes

I'm pretty sure it s a size 16 skeleton seat with the KDPS but don't hold me to it, its been a while since I handled one. Anyway the cork insert is turned to flush up with the hoods. You'll ahve to have the reel you'll be using to get the correct spacing between hoods for a good fit. Another way to get the look and feel is to use a DPSM seat and glue a cork or eva piece between the hoods,

I ground and reshaped a fuji ECS seat awhile back to a small rounded "nubbin" trigger. Feels pretty sweet and IMHO a great choice especally for a finesse type casting rod.

Not a fan of the split spinning seats or minima seats , hand crampers. On my personal rods, i use a fuji DPSM(or similar) and put an EVA overlay in between the hoods so that everything flushes up on top or it has a slight palm swell between the hoods. I'll do the same thing when using cork inserts and skeleton seats, turning the insert so it's flush or slightly swelled above the hoods. Using

A guy I know who has a bunch of g loomis NRX rods just sent 2 spinning rods back because the recoils are grooving. He uses mono exclusively. FWIW i think the NRX rods use Ti framed SiC guides on the first few guides and the recoils are the runners.

I don't think any of the phenix blanks are made in the USA. The new M1 blanks are still pretty new, in fact phenix doesn't have them listed under blanks on there site yet, just production rods. I saw they do have them at mudhole tho. The factory M1 rods are however getting some very good reviews over on tackle tour. I have 2 phenix ultra MBX customs and I can't say a bad thing about them

along with the MHX blanks mentioned above I'd take a look at the Lamiglas XMG 50 popping blanks, LP843 and 844. I built an XMG LP842 for 3" tubes and it's super light, sensitive, and very fast actioned. I'd also take a good look at what Phenix has to offer in the UMBX line, which also a very light and very sensitive line of blanks. If you want "better components" like you m

Dropshot: St Croix 3, 4, or 5 S70MLF or S69MLXF, Lamiglas XMG 50 SJ842 or 862 Phenix UMBX S700L or S700M MHX SJ841, SJ842 Casting: One of my favorite blanks for the techs you described is the St Croix 5C68MXF although I was alittle disappointed in the sensitivity of their NSI models. MHX Mag Bass 782 might be another option

been using alconites and braid for a good number of years now, no problems here. I have had SiC tops crack from a misplaced backcast tho. I really like that Ti framed alconites are available now.

times 2 on the method roger described. I prefer 6'8" rods for alot of my fishing and have extended a number of rods 2" by sliding inside the rod butt. There is a formula for how much needs to go inside the blank, 6 times the O.D. of the rod butt should go inside, works for bass rods with short extensions atleast. On a longer extension or heavier powered blanks, I'd probably opt

Good thing I only fish for smallies these days!!LOL Cool glad to hear it's the same blank as the EXC722, I had a feeling it was the same blank after reading the TT review, which is why I asked. Sounds like it will fill the void left from selling my SCV 68MXF but with some extra reach. As for the LSJ862, I planned on ordering a LSJ842 anyway as a softer action alternative to my XMG LP8

I have a couple lami blanks on the way. An LSJ862 and an LC862. I know what to expect with the LSJ862 but the LC862 I have no idea. It was a great deal I couldn't pass up. So....Anyone have any info on this blank? Action?, power( true to the 1/4-5/8 rating)? What;s it excell at? thanks Matt

I ordered a couple Lamiglas blanks from them too this week. Always heard good things about them on another board so I didn't hesitate. They have been great with keeping me updated on my order through email so far BTW.

What I mean is the threaded portion of the reel seat. When you mount your reel to the seat there will be a threaded portion sticking out from in front of the seats hood. here's a link that shows it

those checks do finish off nice and clean. I usually turn a small piece of eva, burl, or ruberized cork to a similar size as those check to finish off a no foregrip handle. Remember to trim the threads or you'll end up with a threaded foregrip.

Thanks Mike!!.....just the kind of info I am looking for. I'm planning on using fuji TLSG size 5 running guides, do you think the LP842 will still load well w/ these light guides and an 1/8oz. jighead w/ small plastics. This rod will never see a crank or spinner so the more moderate action isn't needed UNLESS it's the better fit for the lighter weights, but still want a stiff rod tip while wo

Been giving these 2 blanks a hard look as a river smallie, thin walled 3" tube and jig w/ small plastics rod w/ 1/8, 3/16 and 1/4 oz. weights. Line 20/6 braid exclusively. I understand that the popping blanks are a good bit faster in action. Which is fine, except what I don't want is a whippy xfast tip like some dropshot rods tend to be. On the other hand I've heard mixed reviews on t

glad I could help, just passing ongood advice that was given to me. Yes Home Depot has it. It's not harsh stuff so it won't hurt the blank. Just get as much epoxy off as possible, that was my mistake the first time I used it as I left some areas around the old guides w/ alittle too much epoxy residue which created some extra work for me. then lather the blank and wrap it in aluminum foil.

To strip the rod down to bare graphite try using citristrip, citrus based paint stripper. I've done a few rods w/ it and it does a good job and takes the labor out of all that sanding. Plus you don't have to worry about sanding too much into the blank. After I stripped the blank w/ the citristrip I lightly wet sanded w/ 800 grit.

For the tiny rebel craws take a look at the StCroix SCII or SCIII 66LF or the MHX S782. These blanks are rated fast but have plenty of "give" for those baits being that they're light powered rods, FME.

Like other have said, I'd go w/ smaller running guides. I built a 6'6 light action rod recently for a 1000 size reel and used M framed 20, 12, 6, and the minima size 4 fly guides to the tip. worked out nicely. You might need a 4th running guide too.

When I've used similar reel seats, I always glued them all up on a polyurethene arbor first and once dried I ream out and fit to the blank. I clamp them using an old spinning reel to keep everything lined up right.
