You can also use a pen barrel trimming bit. you ll probably have to enlarge the hole slightly with a dremel. They run about 12 bucks without the piliot bit. I use mine with a worn old 6" sq drive bit from my kreg pocket screw kit

Have you checked out the kr gps from Anglers resource?
Ive done a couple rods with high framed match guides using this concept and they came out real good. I just ordered some fuji guides for my first true kr build. Gonna try the reduction sizes that the gps gave me and go from there. It will be 16h 8 h 5.5m And 5's to the tip

Jim is this what your talking about
Arent those just another variation of the kdps thats specific to the hoods for the new tvs/pts? How would they finish the end of the thread barrel any different than the kdps? Will the new hoods work on an older style fuji seat (ie DPSM16)? Unless I'm missing something, and it wouldnt be the first time LOL, you'd still need to finish the end of the b

Never used a fuji lock nut but off the top of my head id start out with something like this
Keep the kdps open on the end and leave the threaded barrel exposed just enough for the lock nut to go on. Then you'll have to turn a piece of cork/eva or use a winding check to finish the end of the thread barrel.

Yes carol is great to deal with.
Well that stinks on fitment. I think the 2 would look pretty good together. I have a couple soft touch forecast casting seats here for a couple projects and one will be getting that alps fore grip gonna order one of the new textouch seats with the order. Maybe if the hood portion is removable i can mate the 2 together somehow. We'll see and if it works i

david i wasnt sure if those fore grips would work because the new alps seats are double keyed. Are these notched on each side for hood alignment? I havent handled these seats yet, so for those who have used them, any info on this would be appreciated
Thx

You are correct. I have a pet peeve for threads showingLOL. I mount my reels up on the seats and trim the threads that are showing. When i turn the eva/cork "nub" for the end of the thread barrel, i make it so the hood can clear it and be off the reel seat completely. Usually only a few turns are needed to take the reel off so rarely do i need to take the hood completely off the sea

I do like the batson check shown above and will be using them on a couple upcoming projects, colors are limited tho. I turn small eva or rubberized cork pieces for alot of my personal builds and sometimes use a winding check with it if a little more color is wanted

Wow. He sounds like a class act! Im just a hobby builder but im a carpentry contractor and deal with customers on a daily basis. Customers like this pop up from time to time. Youve gone the extra mile offering excellent service. Politely send him packing. Ignore the threats and more than likely people on the boards will see his true colors. OR quote him triple $$ on this next rod and you

i fish 90% smallmouth bass in Pa rivers. Ive had many many st croix factory rods and customs from premiers to elites. I wouldnt go any lighter than the 66MLF from st croix. Their L powered blanks lack the backbone FME and feel too soft. If your not stuck on st croix than id give a hard look at the mhx hi mod SJ 781. great smallie blank and fishes more like a ML IMHO. I I have a 5s66MLF and

For all my personal rods for freshwater , i use fuji size 5 single foots as running guides and 15-20lb braid with 8,10,or12lb flouro or mono leaders. Using a crazy alberto connection, I have no problems passing the knot, feels smooth too. I do however, always use a tip with size 6 ring regardless of running guide size. I've found , for me anyway, when using any smaller of a tip that i feel the

I don't get wind knots from casting, but being a river smallmouth fisherman means lots of light weight jigs fished down in the rocks, which means snags and buggy whipping snags loose. This at times causes braided fishing line to tip wrap or form a wind knot. The K series running guides i've used on the last 2 spinning rod builds has cut this down significantly. I'd reccommend them over the L

Never used the umbx- s700m but the umbx s700L is one sweet blank. Super light and awesome sensitivity.

according to the fuji GPS, when using KL guides(not high frame) they recommend using the KT guides for anything smaller than 12. So if I was starting with a KL 25, wouldn't KL 16, KT 10 follow for the reduction train. Are you saying the belly guides should still be used for this setup after the KT 10 . ie; KL+KT+KB+KT

TKTAG's are the titanium version, the KTAG's would mat

I ran into to this once, I ended up using a TKTAG 10 as the third reduction guide. The height(14.5mm) worked for me and the rod casts great BUT I think there could be a better alternative.
Anglers resource has a guide height chart but some of the sizes that mudhole shows are missing in the K guides.
I found/saved another site with guide heights in case I ran into this again, , not a s

thanks guys, great info! Any particular travel blanks I should give a hard look at. Problem I've found is finding shorter blanks in 4-5 wt.

Flexlites are definitely being considered for this build, also have a good selection of minimas I can try as well. I'll order that issue , sounds like some good info in the article
thanks again Matt

323. spin/fly blank
looking for some blank ideas for a fly/spin combo rod. handle will flip. around the $100 +/-. 3-4 wt as a fly and something that would be UL-light in power as a spin rod. around 7' finished so 6' blanks would work best but open to ideas. at least a 2pc
blanks I'm considering so far;
phenix elixir FX601-2
lamiglas g1000 GFW72-2L
st croix 3S60ULF2 or 3S66LF2 trimmed down some
TIA

i found the 610MXF very stiff and heavier in power than the 68MXF and the 69MLXF (now the 610MLXF;not sure if any difference other than the extra inch). For me the 68MXF was a great all purpose plastics blank in the 1/8-1/4 range and I fished alot of tubes on it. The 69MLXF is a good dropshot rod and i would also use it for nose hooked weiightless plastics and hairjigs. For what you're looki

I don't use micros for my personal rods so, IMHO tip up techniques, yes they are worth it tip down then no. If you are going with a true micro guide then not worth the extra cost for titanium. Out of the AT, pac bay and fuji titanium guides i've used , I like fuji the best but they are also the most $$. Weights are real close from brand to brand that i've weighed side by side

I fish river and stream smallies almost exclusively. I have the mhx sj781 and the s782, both 1 pc, so keep that in mind. The 1 power spin jig and 2 power spinning are NOT in the same ballpark, not even the same sport. The SJ781 has much more power, it's one of my go to smallie rods and has handled river smallies up to 20" 4+lbs in current . Even landed a handful of 25-30" stripers w

SM is their standard modulus. From what I remember reading somewhere, HM would be equal to loomis GLX, IM to IMX, and SM to GL3.
