Al also has a tall handwrapper that is not meant to be used under power on the bases he does. I’m creating an adapter for it with him so it can also me used on the renzetti. I have it designed and printed but need to make some changes before it is final. I believe doc ski had input on the design.

What power wrapper do you have? Al engling sells stands for the cpw, pac bay, am tac bases. He also sells a thread carriage for those. I sell stands on the renzetti/clemens/crb/rbs (mud hole bases). I also do replacement bearing rollers on the clemens wrappers. I have also designed mine so it is easy to source orings of various colors and sizes etc from the oring-store.

You have multiple colors with Magic Marble Paint depending on base color. You can use the same paint for the top coat on mad-swirls but use different basecoats and have two completely different looking mad-swirls on top.

For a mad-swirl with magic marble on a reel seat, auto clear coat is the best. A 2 part is good, but you'll need to test it out to make sure it does not react with the paint. The ones that go to Mud Hole all have an auto clear shot on them by an auto repair shop and use Magic Marble Paint for the mad-swirl. On grips, for better depth, etc, I like epoxy 321 at riley rods, but thread finish wi

I've repaired several duckett rods. I repaired one about 2 weeks ago, i'm not sure what the label said, maybe ghost but not sure, but nonetheless it had gray threads. When I started taking the thread off the old guide, I noticed that Duckett was also using a gray paint to paint the ends at both sides of the wrap. I know it was paint, because I also had to scrape it off of the white blank. i c

Doing 3 colors will make the paint go a long way and you should be able to get several grips done. Just make sure your surface area is not too large for your grips, otherwise you will waste a ton of paint.

Bushido SJ72/4-8 I believe will be offered in a 2-piece soon. I use the one-piece. I use pretty much the same setup as you when fishing for red-ear with a size larger hook. This rod has a nice light tip, but also has some backbone too it. I have bass guys using it for ned rigs. This is not a noodle rod blank.

The majority of my builds of late are Bushido blanks with a few RodGeek blanks every now and then. I cannot comment on an MHX worm rod, as I haven't built one on an MHX blank in years. I haven't received any negative feedback on any Bushido blank. The durability is great as are the actions. I wish I could comment about what goes into each blank, but I cannot, because I honestly have no clue

Education... Educate your customer. For example, micros still are a craze and people love them. Go look at a factory rod with micros....they also have a micro tip top....but if you've done your research (searching on this forum and others and running names like gardner) you'll learn that if it's a pitching rod, you want a larger tip top and not necessarily a size 3 or 4 due to the natural arch

The mad-swirl can be done on about anything. The main thing is to fill your pits and pores. This can be done on eva, cork, and rigid pour foam. I prefer rigid pour foam. You need to prime the item. You can vary your top coat colors by your basecoat color, meaning that if you use white primer, your colors will be true to their color, but if you use black primer, the colors will either change o

For lightweight, I've been using the pac bay minima 4s for ultralights. American tackle should have their air waves available soon. They do not have a ceramic ring, so they should be very light.

I have both the MHX CB 968 and the Bushido CB710/15-30. Both have very close to the same power. The MHX is a faster tip. For me, I like the Bushido better because of the more moderate to moderate fast action. At our KYRBS event, I took both blanks to Lynn Williams shop, and we compared the two blanks. When I get time to fish, I use the Bushido for 10xd type baits and some of the 2oz or less

Feel free to give me a shout this evening and I'll help troubleshoot the mad-swirl. 502.439.4123. There could be a number of things happening. The bottles may not be shaken well. Even though it works in all water temps, it works better in some ranges. If it is too warm, it can cause it to skim quicker. What type of container are you using? I have one video on youtube with me and my daugh

I have both blanks, and if I can find the pictures I had, I can post them in the photos when I get home of comparing the Bushido72/4-8 to the IP840. I can also weigh the two blanks when I get home. Up until recently, the IP840 was my go to for panfish rods casting light jigs and tubes, that were 1/32 or 1/16. The Bushido has a 4.0 tip I believe and the IP840 has a 4.5 tip. Don't quote me on t

This is the fun stuff. You have roughly 36 colors to choose from. With each color, they change depending on the base color. White basecoats will give you a truer color. But experiment with different colors. For example, I use gray sometimes because there is not a gray paint. I use colorless mmpaint and this exposes the gray along with the other colors I drop in. For example, I want a black

On EVA, and any medium for that matter, you need to seal the base first, with exceptions. With EVA, I recommend using the epoxy sold by riley rods, or thread finish. The thread finish can be thinned to fill in the pores. Once sealed and dried, I take a fine grit sandpaper to smooth it up. From this point, you can prime it, dip it, and then clear coat it with the epoxy at Riley Rods or thread f

We had a successful gathering on 3/23/15 at Lynn Williams' shop. We had 8 present for the day and had presentations on crosswraps, carbon fiber grips, 10xd crankbait blank selection and comparison, and a presentation on lathes. Everyone there walked away with something. Everyone there received microwave guides from American Tackle. Also, American tackle sent a new blank designed for the l

This is just a reminder. We have the KYRBS event Saturday at Lynn Williams' shop. We will begin around 9:30 and go to around 3pm. Anyone is welcome. Jerry Cook, Axiom / Rod Geeks, and American Tackle have sent items to be given out. It should be a good event. Contact me for directions and details. Jeremy Reed ReedRods@gmai

Thanks for the info. The way I prime, dip, and clear coat, taping wasn't feasible. I was able to pop them off. Took a tight grip on it, and slammed it down on the wooden floor (had a rug in between floor and seat). It popped right off.

Has anyone had any luck removing the bottom hood on the fuji DPSM seats? If so, what did you do? I've tried boiling the seats, but I haven't had any luck removing it. I'm trying to remove it so I can paint the seat and then put it back on. Thanks for the help. Jeremy Reed

This is just a reminder for those interested, KYRBS will have a get together on March 21 beginning around 9:30-10 in Owensboro, KY. The event will be at Lynn Williams' shop. Surrounding states are welcome to come. I'm in the process of putting together the agenda for the day. This will be the 3rd annual get together. American Tackle has sent some items to be given out at the event. If you h

I typically have 3 fingers in front of the stem, so uplocking works better for me. Plus with it that way, you don't have to do much of a grip, so it keeps the weight down.
