Chris, Is this rod being used for Striped Bass? on a boat, or for casting plugs? if Striped Bass, I built my dad a meat stick out of a 5.5' stand up blank rated for 20-40 test. I mounted a Shimano 6500 Baitrinner on it. It is perfect for live bunker or chunks or even trolling plugs off of our boat. Ed

Steve, I would be concerned with the Permagloss not being as flexible as the Aftcote, but the Aftcote over the Permagloss should be OK as long as the products are compatible. Ed

When using the double sided tape be sure to put a few layers of masking tape on the blank. Double sided tape is a real mother to cut off the blank without scratching the blank, learned this the hard way! . I also put a small length of a popcicle stick under the double sided tape. This gives you a gap between the blank and the top of the popcicle stick. Because of this gap I just slide my sciss

Don, They are sometimes hard to revive after a long fight, but they are not a fragile fish at all. Ed

A triangle shaped case would have the same effect with a lot less work. Ed

I always use NCP thread for the color white. It is hard to tell the flat opaque look on white NCP. Ed

Doug, For any light action rods I suggest a single wrap and be sure to use the Forhan locking wrap for strength. Forhan info in the library. Double wrap is exactly as you described, used for heavier rods. Good Luck!!! Ed

Dave and Jim, Thanks for the info. I have two Seeker blanks that I will use these guides on. I will have to try the deflection test to see if the larger butt guides are needed. Are you guys underwrapping the guides and then triple wrap each guide? Do you put on a coat of epoxy between each wrap? Ed

Jim, Are you using a single foot for the first guide on the 0 axis? I am thinking of using the two foot SIC on the top and singles from the second guide on. Thanks, Ed

Fran, on the rods for the 450 and 550 reels I would use single foot guides and A thread. As far as blanks go, will he be fishing mostly from a boat? Is he a surfcaster? What type of action does the customer prefer? Plugs or chunks? If possible, see if he has a favorite rod that he uses and match the action on that rod. Ed

With all the spiral/ wrappers out there, has anyone tried the new Fugi LBSG heavy duty single foot SIC guides? They are designed for stand up tuna rods and seem perfect for the 180 axis guides on soft tipped moderate action trolling blanks used for Stripers/Kingfish. Thanks, Ed

Is the spine on the 0 axis or the 180 axis when spiral wrapping trolling/baitcasting rods? I just mailed a check out for my subscription of Rodmaker and common cents. Thanks, Ed

Tony, if your friend is strictly live baiting off a boat, I recommend a 20-50lb rated stand up tuna blank with an level wind reel. These blanks are great for lobbing heavy live bait and have plenty of backbone for any Striper or bluefish. They are short so they are a blast to fish with and being 6' or under they are easy to stow away in a small cabin. I have used both Seeker and Shakespear

Check out the Seeker PS-80. It has a soft upper 1/3 with lots of backbone down low. Trim off the butt to your desired length. Ed
