i needed a spinning rod in a hurry for vacation and used a carbon fiber foam filled handle my buddy made. it felt alright till i taped on the reel and found out i hate it. i really need to taper it down at least on the top. is it possible to reshape one after its dry and glued on? should i even attempt it or should i just fish it and suffer for a whole week.

took them out today for a couple hours and they are the rods that should be called fetha stix, for they are literally light as a feather. when coupled with a pair of steez 103 hl's they were under 8 ounces each which is amazing for stiff 7-6 rods. i would call them extra fast and big john concurs. they are a little stiffer than i'm used too as i usually like a lighter tip and i kind of had to us

finally got my guides on thursday about 11 wrapped two nfc hm's one day and dryed one. then wrapped two phenix blanks on friday. i found my uncles rod motor, so i had three rods drying last night. i am done and the ice finally came off my lake today. i have had enough of size 3.5 micros - i'm going fishing! p.s. the 7-6 ml came out at 2.3 ounces and the 7-6 mh at 2.423.

if you can wait get a phenix T46 blank. i am in the process of building a 7-6 medium heavy and with a cutdown reelseat and micros its feasible that it will finish out at 2.4 ounces. i have not fished it or even test casted it but i haven't been this excited about a blank since i found shikari shx's. i don't know if the blanks i got are prototypes or what but don't care cuz they sure are LIGHT!

i'm building a 7-6 mh which weighed 1.5. i also have a 7-6 ml which weighs under 1.4 and my buddy just finished a 7-1 mh that finished at 2.5 ounces without the thread finish. i'm waiting for some titanium micros or i'd be done too. i haven't even fished them so i don't know about their durability, but as of now they are my favorite blank. they are different as the finish has a design to it an

oops i was wrong - looked at my rods and everyone of them is different, they have everything from a sz 10 to a 3.5. the guides i thought were 4's are all 3.5 micros. do you guys think using 3.5's instead of 4's will effect casting distance on a spiral wrap? it has rained for two days straight and now i have 6 inches of the white stuff so i'm not test casting today.

ok guys then we decided what ? i fish for bass, i pitch and cast with my rods. i fish with low profile baitcast reels and spiral wrap usually with a 6 a 5.5 a 5 then the rest 4's. i have used the revolver wrap but have been using the bumper wrap the last few years just to save a guide.

i have always put my stripper at 0 or a few degrees away from the spiral to keep the line on the reel level. i hear guys are starting at 30 degrees for their stripper and they have no problem with the reel building up on one side. i want to try it but big john says no. can you please convince him- or not. i glued up my handles and am ready to wrap my 6 blanks i got from the expo. thanx

is it the bigger ring diameter that makes a good stripper, or the distance off of the blank? i have some fuji fly guides which are taller than the concepts. i guess my question is can i use a sz 5 for the stripper, if its the same height as the sz 6 guide.

Just got back home late last night from the show. stayed eight fun hours, probably visited only a dozen booths and dropped 1500 or so. made it back to ohio with 11 bucks in my jeans. next year i'm staying the whole weekend and taking out a loan. it was the best show i've been to in 15 years, great people and a class operation . BRAVO!
