i have found a 2001 shikari blank catalog with a 2005 price list and alot of the shx blanks say new or redesigned. when did shikari re design their blanks and why?. my guess is the older ones were thicker walled, hence heavier as i've got my hands on some shx blanks that weigh more than i remember them.

thanks scott- are their any discernible differences between the 3m and frs blanks that you can feel? these ds blanks you mentioned are extra fast and are they rated 4/10 lb or 6/12 lb test. one last question whats the difference with the 5s70mlf-B and 5s70mlf-G and would said blanks work for dropshotting.

armwaretainium what? all i know is go with an 8 strand braid because its smoother or use berkley nanofil it is quieter and does cast farther as i found out this year, and to be stealthier use a longer fluorocarbon leader.

so there were no problems with the 3m resin'ed blanks as you know. i think the sciv blanks do not have the carbon scrim. do you think the medium light scv spinning blanks are dropshot worthy as i like a lighter tip.

why did they stop using the nsi 3m resin. are those blanks different than the newer offerings as i've heard they were heavier. is this true?

last medium light i built i used a 20 then 5.5 h then 4's and it worked great just use the formula on the anglers resource site. the lighter guides makes the rod feel better and i think the rapid choke makes the rod as accurate as a spinning rod can be.

great stuff guys. i love nfc hm blanks and i built a 767-1 hm a couple years ago and its a great rod but i still want to build one last shikari. i'm a creature of habit and don't like painted blanks. i think shikari tried and succeeded at matching imx blanks better than anyone else.

what blank company would be the closest to shikari shx or gloomis imx which are my two favorites. sorry but this my yearly shikari lament.

was this the color progression for the scv blanks- matte green- gloss brown -blue green flip- forest green. the reason i ask is to know if i have an scvi blank and how to tell.

never built a st croix but i am interested in the top of the line scv with scvi graphite on the bottom. i have a few questions -when did the scvi come out, are the older brown or green blanks much different than the newer ones, are the newer blanks heavier after they started using the 3 m resin, when did the integrated poly curve come out, when did advanced reinforcing and taper enhancement techn

i shook a spinning rod with a bump on the back of the reelseat and it felt pretty good. come to find out they are called aero reelseats. i like their feeling but think they may be too heavy for my builds. just wondering, did anyone ever make their own aero shape out of cork or maybe carbon fiber.

here we go again as my dropshot rod is kaput (a kayak casualty) and i need a new spinning blank. it was an old gloomis p842 imx and i'm looking for something similar. i liked gloomis and was a big fan of shikaris so you can see my problem. i am thinking about a st croix scv5s70mf but don't know much about them. i like a rod with a lighter tip 0 to 2 power mostly. thanx in advance

thanx gentlemen - i knew this was the place to get answers, like they say " where theres a will theres a way". i was in a panic last night and got my first reply in 7 minutes, what took you so long? i placed the reel on and marked it then cut out the section and some of the foam to recess the reel seat so its flush with the handle. i taped on the reel and 'voila' it feels great. it fits

its just a tennessee handle that i cut in half and tapered the back with 3 pieces of cork . i want to flatten the bottom for the reel seat to fit nice and taper the front down a bit. i already sanded the reelseat section a little and am down to fiber but i need to do it more. funny but i used to love regular tennessee handles but after i redid a spinning rod with the lighter guide concept and cu
