"Tracking" is a term being used more and more by rod companies to make you believe that their rod moves perfectly in line with the caster's motion. I think its a farce as they all do that. the idea that you can move your arm in one direction but the rod will "track" in another is @#$%&. "Smooth tracking" or "the rod tracks perfectly" are marketing jargon IM

The best step by step instructions I have seen so far on basic dec. wraps was in Tom K's book. All color photos. You might find some stuff elsewhere on the web if you look.

The 10% iisn't the handle length, it is the forward support point which makes the system relative. If you are going to use different handle lengths for different blanks as your support point then you will not have a system with relative results. It would be useless for comparing one balnk to another. There has to be a similar percentage constant from blank to blank.

Steve, the CCS already has what you're looking for. It measures the whole blank but has a constant of 10% of the overall blank length for the forward measuring support point. Very clever work by Dr. Hannenman. So there you go. You have what you want already in place.

One axis on every sixty degrees would seem reasonable to me.

Found some weldwood contact cement in a spray can. Does anybody know if this is the same stuff as what they sell in the glass bottle? Seems like it would be too thick to spray, but it is works it would make spreading the cement on grips inlays a lot easier for me.

There were two tests done as I remember, the one that ProKote did and where their finish yellowed the least, and the one that Threadmaster did where their finish yellowed the least.

Also remember that most of the thread "companies" that offer thread to the custom rod building market don't actually make thread. They buy it from the manufacturer and relable it for resale. So the bigger rod companies most probably just buy it direct from the same people that these thread "companies" do.

Thx. It won't peel or chip from the edges of the scratch so I am going to assume it is anodized. Just wanted to be sure of what I had since it is going on a saltwater rod.

OK so I have a winding check supposed be anodized purple. But I scrartched the back of it to see and it left a silver scratch. So does this mean it is only plated and not anodized? I was thinking that if it was anodized the color was set deep into the metal and plating is only on the surface. Is this not correct?

I don't know. If I had a magazine I thought was late I would just E-mail or call the publisher and ask when I should expect it or what did I need to do to get a replacement. Going direct on a public forum and making a stink about it in front of everbody as the first course of action seems counterproductive to me. Or maybe he did contact Tom first and did not get results? Don't want to assume anyt

I ran out of Aftcote and need another coat of epoxy on some wraps. I have some Flexcoat. I think it will be okay to mix one on top of the other as the other is already dry but just wanted to check here in case somebody had trouble doing this with different epoxies. Thanks.

That was my point in my post above. That spool upsweep as a means of locating the choke guide has already been proven not to be the best way. So starting up the same old tired and discounted argument again is devolution not evolution.

Turning the reel completely around to face the other direction is not changing the upsweep it is changing the horizontal direction. Pointing it in odd directions is equally weak for the same reason. Very poor analogy. The big problem with setting the choke guide based on spool upsweep is that it put the choke guide way too far out on the rod and sometimes off the end of even fairly long rods .

I must be missing sometning. To embed a photo in a post here you have to first upload the photos to an internet hosting site like photobucket or instagram and then copy the link and bring it back and post it here. It is just as easy if not easier to directly upload a photo to the photo page and then bring that link back here to the forum. Then all a guy has to do is just click on the link to have

There were a lot of unique and new products but for me the new Triangle chuck was ingenious. If you have ever had a rod slip or come out of a chuck on your rod dryer and ruin a nice wrap job this is going to be a game changer. Do not think anyone will want anything else after seeing this. So simple you cannot believe somebody had not thought of this before now. Also the little Blackhole almost U

I'm trying to ascertain the original selling price of the original GUSA Surf Assassin rod blanks. There were 3 models. I no longer have my catalog from back then and would like to find out what they originally sold for. I thinkk these came out in the early 2000's. Thanks.

Remember that if you are changing reels that not all have the same foot length so maybe a little extra for good measure.

I have not found anything that holds tight ALL season. It is just common practice I guess to have to snug things up before each outing just to make sure. On the TN handles I have used with aluminum rings I had to snug them several times each day. Didn't like it and went to the plastic or nylon type rings and had better luck but still need to check them every so often.

As I understand it the Rodgeeks company sells consumer direct. Is this right? I would guess this cuts down on order and shipping time if true.

If you are talking about a weave program I would just contact the manufacturer and ask for help. I know David Boyle will help on Visual Weave if that's the one.

I think it will go just the opposite. With more dealers competing they will discount no matter what anyone says. The dealers will make slim margins in order to get sales, if there are any sales there to get. How popular are the NFC blanks? You do not hear much about them.

I thought NFC blanks had already been available for the past four or five years now?

Since paint itself is made to stand up to the elements, what advantage or disadvantage would I get if I painted a rod blank with appropriate paint and did NOT put any sort of top clear coat on it? Why would I want to add the extra weight of a clear coat?

Does anyone know or has seen the new Trek line of spinning and casting three piece travel rods from St. Croix yet?? Will these be available as blanks for the custom builder?

Every spool of Gudebrod I ever owned had at least one of the joining knots within the spool somewhere. Never made sense to me why it would not be cheaper to just let that spool run out and start another one. Somebody had to take time to tie that little knot. I'm guessing?
