Why did the quote disappear? Anyway, humidity will not affect it. Warmer weather speeds up the cure and colder weather slows it down. I apply finish in an air conditioned area all the time and get great results. Just my .02.

I would use nylon instead of cotton so it won't rot. Put a light coat of epoxy on the rod blank and wrap the cord onto that. Nothing else is needed.

Thanks. I had someone tell me that more like 50% gets lost! That got me worried that mine might have been one of them.

Is the current Rodmakers magazine already out? When should I have received the latest copy? Thanks.

OK, We will forget the old saying, easy as making pie since it looks like there is some question as to whether its really easy to make a pie or not. But it is easy to wrap a micro guide.

Based on advice I received here, I also started beginning the wrap, making about five turns and then sticking the end of the micro foot under the wrap. Holds fine and then you just proceed on up the foot. This also lets you align the guide perfectly before the wrap is complete. Just stick the end of the foot under there and and align and then finish wrapping. Easy as pie.

I have a lot of respect for St. Croix products and the company itself. Last week I asked about getting their recommended fly rod guide spacings and several here were kind enough to point me to their chart on the St. Croix website. I made this observation, even though St. Croix fly rods come in all different powers and actions, the spacing per the length is the same no matter what. So even two St.

What is the wisdom in using thread that may have silicone in it? Has anybody done a wrap with this and then tried removing the epoxy from the thread. I wonder how well the epoxy sticks to the thread.

I had to do that on a decorative wrap that did not flatten out well. But I found that I had to go all the way to 400 grit paper to completely remove any scratches that would be visible.

After some exchanges I had with others on some rod building websites this one really appealed to me. I also like that everybody has to abide by the same rules. Good on 'ya.

I understand how to do static guide placement and testing. I have done that on a new blank and wanted just to compare my results with the factory St Croix placement. Can someone direct me to a place that would have the St Croix recommended spacings? I checked their site but must have missed any such chart. I thought they had one there.

Could someone please define what size a micro is? Is there more than one micro size?

Does anyone have any information or a tutorial on creating eliptical inlays in wood grips?

A neutral background without much clutter seems best. Does not fool the camera's auto metering system and lets it focus on the rod instead. You can also tape wrapping tissue paper over any overhead lights to diffuse the glare you get. Also better to photograph wraps BEFORE applying finish. That takes care of the glare problem!

Me 2. If I want a thinner epoxy I would just buy a thinner epoxy. Heard too many horror stories about what solvents can do to an epoxy down the road.

THX. I guess that explains it well enough. When used wet for a surface inlay it will bond but not as strong as in those instances where you let if fully dry first. You only do it wet when conditions dictate it.

OK, but I thought that contact cement only adhered if it was dry on both parts. If wet contact cement will work, why do authors and even the instructions on the can insist that you let it dry first? Won't leaving it wet make for a weak or failed bond? Not trying to be argumentative, just trying to understand.

OK, so I understand when doing EVA to EVA work you want to use contact cement and that it is important that it be DRY to the touch before mating the parts. But in the article I read on making the EVA inlays, the author said to apply a coat and lay the inlay piece into the cut out while the epoxy is still WET. What am I missing here? My slow brain isn't processing what I am reading. Thanks.

Doing some repairs and find that the trim ring colors are not thread. They are painted on! Very thin red and gold bands off the end of black thread wraps. I know I could scrape the paint away and recreate the trims with thread maybe in NCP red and a dull met. gold. But I wonder if anyone here has ever tried to paint the rings on either for a repair or on a custom rod? Seems to me that a fine brus

If you go ahead with this make sure the owner is clear on who is responsible for any in-store rod breakage!

Just getting started on a new rod project and noticed the blank I have is split at the butt. Not far. Just maybe a 1/2" or so split. Looks like something might have been set on it and crushed it just enough to cause a split. Wondering if I should ignore it? Plug it? Or just trim it back 1/2 to 3/4"? This is a 7 footer so the loss of 3/4" to get back behind the split would not likel

Taking a family vacation. In Florida now and leaving to head north for the Expo tomorrow. Does anyone in that area know if any of the local hotels will allow pets? We have a small dog and would like to be able to keep him in our hotel room on Friday evening. Thanks in advance.

With all the newer water based clear coats available today I wonder if one of these might prove more suitable to thread finishing than epoxy?

I have done some birch bark grips. Good enough. Do any of you guys know if there are other suitable types of bark that will work and hold up for rod grips? I look around the yard at my own trees and wonder if something there might work. I can see it could have to be thin and sheet-like. Any ideas?

Interesting but I wonder if the line flow really affects casting distance by very much. Any ideas?
