Should be really easy to do. Just deconstruct what is on there now. Cut or trim back the thread that is holding it, unwind, then unwind the leather strip. Remember the steps and just go back in the reverse order with the new stuff.

Craft store is the better bet. Envirotex epoxy is what at least two of the major fishing rod finish epoxies are and are just rebottled. The only problem is that the stuff does not come in small bottles to begin with so you might save per ounce but are not likely to save on total cost. Not for just one rod anyway.

I have been buying my Scotchbrite pads from a woodworking store. Last week I was with the missus at the grocery store and saw some pot cleaning pads that look a lot like Scotchbrite. They are about half what I pay at the woodworking store. Bought and tried some and cannot tell the difference. Just wanted to pass this along. It might save some guys a few bucks.

Tried searching but could not find it, but I think someone here once recommended a water slide paper that would in an ink jet? I may be wrong but just in case, anybody know what brand or where to get it. Seems like somebody said Testors made it but I cannot find anything on their company site related to it.

Uh, if you were asked to build it using an SC V blank, why not just use an SC V blank?

That's what I'm talking about! A long agressive file used correctly will remove a lot of metal in a long swipe! Just keep the teeth clean with a file card so they are not filled with particles and the file will continue to cut like all get out on each pass.

Everybody seems to use power devices. I just bought a l-o-n-g bastard file and make about three long passes down across the guide foot in the direction of ring to foot and get nice smooth taper. Small guides only take one pass. Just passing it along.

I have a nephew that has an interest in building a rod for himself. His birthday is coming up and I thought I'd buy him an inexpensive hand wrapper. Nothing to fancy. I know about the basic one that Flexcoat has. Are there any other options say for under $50? Thanks.

Is 5mm the inside diameter of the ring? Or outside diameter?

Got a couple simple kids rods to build for a friend on a tight budget. Was going to use masking tape for arbors under the seats instead of the hard foam just to save him some $$$ and the kids won't care and will outgrow the rods in a couple years anyway. But before I use the masking tape, are there better tape alternatives when tape is used for this purpose?

Lots of good info on the 'net but even combined it all pales in comparison to the amount of stuff found in the mag. Plus once you read a little of it you realize that just about every technique or question ever asked on this and all other rod building message boards has already been covered in detail in earlier issues of the mag.

I know I have read the article but didn't remember that last paragraph shown here. It would point out that not all abravise cleaners are the same due to grit size plus that note about them being far and away superior to anything EXCEPT Scotchbrite. I will stick with the Scotchbrite to put my mind at ease.

I think any time you set up for absolute best performance for any one thing you end up with a rod that has a very narrow performance window. It you know exactly what you want and plan to use that rod in a very performance range, so be it. But sometimes you need a rod that can perform well in a wider range of situations. Just depends on how specialized you want to get.

This is where the common cents system should come in real handy for you. This way you can postion the rod in the holder and tie off to whatever portion you plan to cut and dial it in until it is exactly a 7wt and then cut! Better to know before cutting than after.

Have any of the builders here experimented with making metal parts out of aluminum or brass? Stuff like custom winding checks?

But I do see your point and I think Fuji makes good enough products that they do not need t

I am going to paint some fuji reel seats. I think Krylon Fusion is going to be my best best from what I have read and tried. My only real concern is how durable it is on the threaded portion of the seat barrel. Is the paint going to wear and peel after a few uses of the locking nut? I thought about coating the entire job with permagloss or similar but wonder if the added thickness of paint and cl

Want to add some tiny gliter to my epoxy. Not big flakes just small stuff to put a little dazzle in the coating. What is the best stuff and who has it?

Thanks. My "business" is strictly a part time thing just to make a few extra dollars. Never had the sales to justify anything more and at this point it really serves to give me the opportunity to keep building rods. If I was only building for myself I would have been done after a few rods. Just wondered how many really operate as a bonafide business and make enough money to do more than

148. Goals?
Just curious as what your goals are in your custom rod building business. Mine have scaled back a little to where I just want to build and sell enough rods to pay for my own rod building and fishing habit. I had thought about more when I started this but sometimes the business is just not there. Custom rod sales are not automatic these days. Curious as to what other members intended and what they

I think the SIN rings are for wire line. They might also be thicker and heavier for that reason. Better check with Fuji-Angler Resources. They would know best.
