because of my poor sight and old man hands i wrap guides from the ring end to tip but don,t go over the tip onto the blank..i use seymo cp rod seal for the wraps, no e poxy finish..it doesn,t get any lighter..durability is good so far..i don,t sell rods and probably couldn,t, not near enough bling..since i build on e-glass i try to keep the weight down on the guide train..so far so good..lol.

it sounds like you had a temperature drop some night in your work room and pro coat resin is sensitive to this..it only takes one night..i,m going off in a tangent now just to point out a product i like for this issre..it comes from pac bay and is/was sold by mud hole..they are catsup like packets of pre measured epoxy..what i like is they can be put in your pants pocket to pre warm for a couple

my nephew says to make a large wrap you need a longer piece of thread than a piece for a small wrap..a long piece has more stretch than a short piece..so a large loopstretches more..

why do the wraps at the butt end of the rod pack so much easier than wraps at the smaller diameter tip end under the same winding tension..

no Michael, no problem..i know how popular graphite is..that,s all i built and used for a ling time..i mainly wanted topoint out to those that may still have some fondness for glass how it can be made to work again..i originaly started using carbon for it,s sensitvity but i never really cared for it,s fish fighting quaity but the super lines changed that and i just wanted to point that out..sensi

that,s funny Chris, my hunting urges were destroyed by one of my younger brothers when we we were growing up..we would go rabbit hunting and he used my old single shot 410..i used a three shot 20 gauge..we would take turns on rabbits..i can,t recall him ever missing with that single shot but i often unloadeed three shots and just scared the rabbits into the next state..in his house he,s got deer

Michael, i get eerything your saying about the cheaper carbon blanks but they still don,t have the really slow response of e-glass..carbon is light, that,s it,s nature..it can,t act like glass and fight fish like glass especially e-glass..i know i sound crazy but when i found that i could get all the sensitivity i need from just using a braidd line i was hooked on glass again..lol.

what i is take a mud hole 61/2' blank and cut it back to 5' to get the swing weight i want..it feels like graphite but fishes like glass..8 guides, mostly #5s help make for a good hook set, #8 yag and runners, no reducers, don,t need them with light braid..it,s also a good guide train for my curado, i use a dps reel reat..it,s a fun rod and fishes like a biggerr rod (because it still has the flex

i grew up with glass and always liked it,s fish fightig qualities but got won over by graphites sensitivity especially for worm and jig fishing..then the super lines came out and changed how i looked at graphite and glass rods..with braided line on my reel my glass rods suddenly had the sensitivity of graphite rods with mono but were slower and gentler in their response.. fish head shakes were so

a few years ago my nephew and i were fishing one of our favorite local farm ponds..we were both casting 1/8 oz. chatter baits..i,m talking up how great thesse baits are chattering and my nephew finally commented that he could not feel any chatter until he got the bait about half way in..i handed him my rod and said try this..he made a cast and staeted cranking..he yells oh my god i can,t believe

, glass or graphite but there is a third choice called composite, a blend of both..i like to call them expensive ugly sticks who has been building composite rods for decades..before they wwere called composits..so why not just fish just glass..not as sensetive it is said but only if you think sensetivity comes from the rod,,then the super braids came out and made my glass rods feel like graphite

that,s another thing too..the rod blank will no longer cast efficiently the lures it was designed for..the rod is not doing anything well..

why is so much thread tension needed, even to the point of breaking fibers, just to hold down a guide..is it not the number of wraps that hold the guide not extreme thread tension.. if your breaking fibers, your tension is way too hhigh or a guide is crackked..

why is so much thread tension needed, even to the point of breaking fibers, just to hold down a guide..is it not the number of wraps that hold the guide not extreme thread tension.. if your breaking fibers, your tension is way to hhigh or a guide is crackked..better yet go to D-thread..it can handle higher tensions..

ln Tom,s rod building book, he describes how attaching a 50# bag of sand kills the spring in the board and the diver can,t leap in the air near as high..it makes the point very clear..the extra weight is too much for the board to carry and still work.

it,s really surprissing how well a spinning reel will cast on a casting guide train as long as you use braided line of about 10# test..
