the extra weight should be added to the line not the rod..maybe a lead shot or a small float or use a fly rod..

Aleks, one of the plusses of e-glass is it,s durability (ding proofness)..does s2 glass retain this durability or at least as much as a low modulus carbon rod..i,m sure not sanding helps with this..Thanks.

i understand Roger..you use power and make hundrreds of rods a year..i,m just giving another view from someone using a hand wrapper though i recall seeing someon using a bobbin holder on a power wrapper on u-tube..he held it up close to the guide, zip zip done..lol...

if a fiberglass rod has a modulus similar to a graphite rod, a weight of a graphite rod and a response time of a graphite rod, is it still a fiberglass rod or a carbon copy..lol..

i c-clamp my v-blocks to the front edge of my work desk so that they extend over the front edge by a few inches..i put the rod into the vees then attach the thread which is in a fly tying bobbin holder and let it hang down..i turn the rod with one hand and supply moderate thread tension with the other hand as i wrap the guide in place..gravity allows me to turn the rod forwards or backwards and n

i remember when shakespear used to sell ugly stik blanks..i have only one left..i keep hoping they will offer them again but in the meantime i have purchased the complete rods and upgraded them as Josh suggested..it,s nothing to sand them a little to change the taper if desired..i do this for spinerbait rods on occasion. you can do these things only on an ugly stick and not break the bank if thin

the thing affecting rod guide weight that i find from just reading this sight is amount of epoxy used on the guide wraps..it,s nothing to see buildes applying two, thre even four coats..and they always start with a saturation coat thinking this will keep the guides from falling off.. it,s overkill the guides are held on just as well with one coats of cp to seal the wrap and one coat of epoxy which

most of my experience with e-glass comes from mudhole glass..i found that by trimming the butt i can fine tune the power and flex easily to whatever i want..so much easier than working with graphite..

Lynn, fly fishing can be fun if you do it your way..you got to cherry pick what the experts put out there, most are best ignored.

i hope i,m wrong but i think the split just keeps progressing down the rod if it,s still used..and all the added weight changes the rods feel alot.

i use cp which allows me to use only one coat of flex coat..even if it yellows one coat isn,t thick enough to show it..

269. Re: G4 Finish Issues
if you add anything to your finish epoxy such as pigments, solvents, even heat, it turns into a crap shoot..lol. meaning the epoxy will not cure to the hardness the formulater designed and there is less resistance to scuffing and wear in general..
