Agree Mark..when I hook a bass on my glass rod I,m confident he,s mine..I never feel that way with graphite rods,.I,m sure you,ve watched the pros on TV, as soon as they hook a fish they start cranking like crazy before he jumps off.. and he probably will..lol.

I build and fish fiberglass rods which are considered low recovery..they are only five feet long and all cast 1/8oz.nlures sixty feet or more with ease,.way more fishing distance than I like or need. I don,t pay attention to rod recovery or if I have too many guides etc. I don,t care about rod sensetivity because I. get sensetivity from the line not the rod and glass is a much better fish fightin

I think graphite rods are getting to quick..I fish for bass often in pretty cold water with spinner baits,.often I feel them just pecking at the blade..they are slowed down so much by the water temperature that they are not strong enough to really suck it in..then I change over to my light power glass rod which is slow enough to let them take the lure without the rod pulling it away so quickly an

Ron, I still have my first build..It,s a Herters kit build fly rod four weight or whatever a D level line is, anyway it casts a four weight line today..I built it in the early 60s..Laquer was the CP and varnish was the thread finish, no epoxys yet and Duco like cement was used on rings and handle glue up,.I learned more about rod building with that first rod than any other..It,s a special rod.

I think that on graphite rods you can easily feel a difference in guide weights but I build on glass blanks which are heavier and can,t notice a difference between #4 and #5 guides.

Is not the haul used to increase the flex in the rod, thus increasing the rods potential energy which when released gives the line it's speed?

I. Agree with Roger..two handed casting a fly rod has taken all the wrist pain out of casting big hair bugs for bass for me..I wished I had made the change from day one..It has forced me to make shorter but stronger strokes coming back and casting forward. But I must disagree on grabbing the fore area of the rod to fight a big fish..I once watched a friend fight an eight pound bass..He really str

LAnce, I,m not a weight fanatic..I think it,s carried too far..it is done to improve rod sensetivity but the rod is not the best source of sensetitity, the line is especially braided line so much so that I have gone back to using glass rods..to me glass is a better fish fighting material and I still get more than enough sensetivity from the line.

If the finish epoxy was thinned with a solvent it will not cure to it,s maximum hardness allowing moisture to get into the epoxy..fully cured epoxy will not allow moisture to penetrate..by the way, there are cps that can be soaked in water and not cloud over in the least.

I have fished Delaware Mill pond from a belly boat, kick boat or sculling a small bass Hunter and just flipping cover..my rods spent a lot of time in the water poking to free lures..guides would get caught and pulled out until the forhan locking wrap, best invention since the metal fish hook..lol.

Ernie, I can look at someone's rods and see if they are hunting big game or small game..if there's no foregrips they are probably tournament fishermen who seek pounds of fish and thus numbers of fish, and there is a lot more small fish than big fish..anyway you do not need a foregrips for small fish..but if I see foregrips on the rods I think this is a big bass fisherman because he knows the valu
