Do you think one or. two coats of CP just on the blank would reduce yarn slippage when wrapping and making packing easier and better? Maybe the CP will give the thread a little softer surface to bite into.

Exactly Phil and when you heat epoxy your changing it to a lower build and still need to apply another coat to get the build you want..if. a wrap is sealed you. can apply the finish thick or thin and it will stay that way because your not using heat to get penetration.

Just because someone is using a less sensitive rod does not mean it,s a less sensetive outfit..if they are using b raided line and you are using mono, they are likely fishing with a more sensetive outfit than you ..about a year ago my nephew and I were fishing a small farm pondb with one eight ounce chatter baits,.I was commenting about how easy it was to feel the bait chatter when my nephew said

Also, no amount of winding tension is going to hold and stabilize single foot guide like the forhan locking wrap, the greatest invention in rod building since hooks..lol.

Some years ago I showed one of my rods to a friend who ran a tackle business..he studied the guides and asked where I got the tape that,s holding the guides on..I said I use thread not tape..he said it sure looks like tape..I then explained how packing the thread every few turns and burnishing them conceals the individual thread and they form this tape like look And I always try to get that look.

I think a lot of the difference in epoxy penetration is caused by wrap packing,.I do a lot of packing but get the sense that people who use a machine wind the thread without very little or any packing so not to stop..machines are supposed to finish first..lol. loosly packed wraps Allow quicker epoxy penetration.

Robert, I can,,t use high build on unsealed wraps, just too much time wasted trying to get wrap penetration..you can thin it but it,s not high build anymore, it,s low build and acts like low build and the epoxy in the cup is getting more high build..CP sealed wraps are so easy to finish and quicker, no time wasted trying to get penetration of finish, no fighting bubbles during application, no thi

Your right Tom..most builders use the first coat of epoxy to seal the wrap so to speak and usually have to apply another one or two coats to level or make the first coat Xtra heavy to level..the wrap in your video looked sealed because of the ease you applied the epoxy, no trying to pound the epoxy through the wrap and no gobs of epoxy to saturate the thread..you can do that only because the thre

Phil,. I,m sure you have more cold weather fly fishing experience.than me but does clay or ceramic get as cold as metal wire
Ceramic is a poor conductor of heat or cold.. I'm guessing your using REC guides for stealhead for the flex..

Phil, if you make a fly cast and hold the line in one hand and rod in the other you are hauling and most likely double hauling too..you may not know it but you are or the line would drop

Epoxy does not just cure overnight..it cuures for weeks maybe months and keeps getting harder..the harder it gets the better resistance to bumps and rubs..wraps stay newer longer,.two ml may appear cured but may not get as hard as they can..three ml. Has much better chance to fully cure..

Phil, I like single foot ceramic fly guides..the line shoots much better no matter line stiffness because ceramic is much smoother than wire and I build rods under eight feet to reduce swing weight but ceramic shoots much better to make up the shorter rod in distance..does that make sense to you? Would you stick with wire in cold weather? Actually,,once you use ceramic you will not go back to wir

Your welcome..I have used it to finish wraps because it resists water unlike most CPs..I once made a Seymo test wrap and let it soak overnight..the Seymo showed no cloudiness, stayed crystal clear..
