Hi Kevin,
My personal choice is Threadmaster Chromaseal. It gives me spool colours with madeira thread and no problems with fisheyes etc so I see no reason to change. I'm using three coats on madeira which is approximately "a" size but gudebrod would probably be different as it doesn't contain silicon and wouldn't need as much. Haven't used "d' thread in years. Kevin,
Why do you use any color preserver. I rather like the look of NON NCP thread finished with no color preserver. Give it a try, if you haven't before. You might like it. Roger Re: Whats your favorite color preserver?

Roger that may be fine for guide wraps wrapped with regular nylon thread or tartan wraps where you want the colours to bleed but just try it after you have done a 10 hour cross wrap where you need to maintain the colour integrity. You will not get the colours or brightness of the wrap without using CP - even on NCP thread! Colour preserver has it's uses - don't knock the use of it. I also use Chromaseal with great results.

Hi,
I will do almost anything and everything NOT to use CS/CP! Obviously many of you have not applied this knowing that it had gone bad. The product looked good, smelled good but after three coats and testing to make sure all the threads were sealed when finish was applied it would not stick to the thread. Had to remove all the finish let it dry, recoat using a new bottle of CS/CP and all came out okay. The rod was in the drying box and the finish was falling off the wraps just as my bride called me for dinner. UGH!!! When forced to use CS/CP I use Flex Coat and usually 3 coats. I like flexcoat as well, the main reason is it is white so I can see where I applied it, I have a hard time with the clear stuff on some colors. ______________________________________ Super Tight Lines......Don Re: Whats your favorite color preserver?

I have used several different CPs and went back to Flex Coat It can be thinned for better penetration and can be heated for faster dry without bad results like on some I have tried
Also am trying Gudebrod with the white label Drys fast hard It is a pain to try and get off if ya want to rewrap Can also be thinned with water Bill - willierods.com Re: Whats your favorite color preserver?

Since CP seems to be nothing more than thin white glue, we thinned some dollar store wood glue, until it had the proper viscosity.
It goes on white and dries clear...Just like the $4.00 an ounce stuff. After testing it, with good results, on a couple of rods, the only difference we can see is that costs about $1.00 a gallon. Re: Whats your favorite color preserver?

PVA adhesives and acrylic color preservers are not at all the same thing.

Are commercial CP's closer to clear acrylic tint base? Re: Whats your favorite color preserver?

I have thinned Elmer's wood glue - It works Just have to keep it mixed The solids will separate Gudebrod does not seem to do this jar says to mix with alcohol clean with water but that turns it to a jell Bill - willierods.com Edited 1 time(s). When building rods for demanding customers I would never skimp on using glue in lieu of a good color preserver . I also prefer to use the Flex Coat as it has given me the results I wanted

I tried and still have several brands. I tend to use Cason's water based most of the time and Cason's solvent based also. David Dosser Coshocton, OH Re: Whats your favorite color preserver?

I wrapped the guides on a rod with ProWrap NCP and when i put the finish on (Pro Coat) the gold colored thread took on a "wet" look which darkened more than i liked. I feel you should use CP on all threads, both NCP and Nylon. Don't see what harm it'll do, and that way you know the colors won't change. Re: Whats your favorite color preserver?
