I'm sure this is one of those discussions that could go on forever, and I'm sure every material out there has a place. I didn't include Alconite® because we don't know exactly what it is. Fuji has never disclosed, even to us, exactly what makes up Alconite®. We know there are about 5 elements in the "blend". Aluminum and some Cobalt are in there we think, but the rest is a mystery. We

Our research shows that there are indeed differences in the quality of SiC. Proper "pressing" into various forms requires "clean rooms" and special precautions to assure the SiC is not contaminated in any way during the process. Flaws and fine dust particles can have a substantial impact on the integrity of the final product. SiC is superior to other materials in a variety of

We are diligently working to finalize our printed catalog and will include rods with Fuji Components and/or reel seats. We have a pretty good selection now but would like a wide selection to choose from. Attach a BIG pic and email to info@anglersresource.net. We will also accept rod

Old fly rod trick...stand up, put the rod BEHIND your knees, grip the rod then spread your knees/upper thighs against your forearms. Grip seems better in this position, too.

We recently produced a Fuji rod decal for use by manufacturers and I have been working to figure out a way to make it available to custom rod builders as well. We considered a number of methods of distribution and came up with the old standby, the "Stamped, Self Addressed" envelope. Old fashioned...maybe, but simple and effective. So here's the deal. Send a stamped, self addressed envel

I don't have an official answer from Fuji, but the idea that tops "match" guides seems contrary the fact that for some guide frames we offer and list up to five different top designs as "recommended". Yes, some frames seem to point to a particular top, but there is tremendous latitude in the final choice. By the time you factor design, ring size and tube size, height must be &

I was wondering why you needed the line closer than 2.5 mm ;) You'd have to put one every 2 inches to clear the blank!

I must be missing something...just took a measurement you don't often see, distance from foot to bottom inside edge of ring. In other words the distance off the blank the guide will hold the line. I measured three sizes of two models, the KT and the L, both are deep-pressed. The KT in size 4 holds line approximately 2.46MM off the balnk (hard measurement to take, so these are approx). In size 4.5

As some of you know, we are diligently working to bring a new web site on line and one of our pages is a photo page of Fuji products on rods. If you have a well focused, fairly large file (500KB or more) of any Fuji guide or reel seat on a custom rod and would like to be part of our site, we would welcome your submission and include your name as the builder. We will try to include a few other det

Choose one Bruce. Either will work and both will give the same results. 45 might help your "fight position imagination" a little more and let you change bends easily if you want to test slightly different angles. Horizontal will guarantee true 90 degrees regardless of load (provided you keep the weight off the floor). As with all things in rod building, we've reached the personal prefer

Lot's of people here more qualified than me for such a discussion, Russ. You're concerned with an angler standing at a rail in hundreds of feet of water...the "Big Pull". I seldom take a rod to the brink of destruction. All my load testing is done for guide placement although bending into the lower third is a pretty hefty pull. I don't envy you having to consider that on the rods you bu

I have to admit it's an "eyeball" thing but it's very easy to visualize a right angle above the rod and then skooch the weight and adjust the slack until all looks right. I suppose that sounds a little unscientific for some builders, but as I mentioned, we look for a RANGE of performance. If we set up at 42-degrees or 49-degrees it's won't make a smidgen of difference in how the rod per

You can point a rod straight at a fish at which point you are taking the rod out of the equation and simply pulling the fish in. This is the most powerful position you can put the rod in because there is no flex, it's a winch. It doesn't matter where your guides are either. At the opposite end you can high stick until the rod fails, but I can't imagine why anyone would consider that in guide plac

Regardless of the type jig, it's important to secure a top guide and load the rod using a string tied to the top. Doing this allows the rod to assume a NATURAL BEND and that's what your final guide placement is supposed to support. Running the line thru poorly placed "test" guides and then loading will force the blank to do things it wouldn't normally do. The exact opposite of what you

Fuji's KW is the double foot version in the K-Series and is available down to a 5.5. We also have the LC in a 5 and a 5.5 in Black Alconite and Polished Stainless SiC. Fuji is coming with a new KB guide that features a wider, longer beveled foot for high stress areas in the mid section of the rod which should eliminate the need for double foot guides beyond the first few.

If you take good care of your equipment, the nod would go to polished stainless with ALCONITE® rings. If it usually stays in the back of your truck til next weekend (like my stuff), go with titanium and have a beer instead of washing rods. The titanium will cost more and so will all that extra beer you'll drink while you would have been washing rods, but in the long run...it's worth it. I used

More and more surf fisherman are jumping on the "K train". Using the New Guide Concept, see where a 20 ring KW stripper would fall or maybe a 25. Complete the reduction train with KL and then use the KT for running guides. Test cast and compare. I like a 5.5 running guide on big rods but you could probably go to a 4 with no problems. This layout is a little "new", but it's ge

IMO the layout may improve with more attention to the HEIGHT of the reduction guides rather than the ring size. If nothing else, the micro gurus are establishing the fact that small ring strippers work at least as well as larger rings and sometimes even better. But, you can't get around the height issue.

The KWSG30L Is 10 mm lower than the regular 30. The KWSG40L is 20 mm lower than the regular 40. "J" is a reference to the ring that Fuji is dropping in the future. These guides are offered to allow more conventional layouts using K-Series guides. Their height closely matches the older SV frame height in the same sizes.

Set your camera size setting to "basic" or "normal" or "email". Then, to be safe, if you have an app that will email the photo (especially to a phone), it will automatically resample the image to 72 dpi, which is screen resolution, which is what forum libraries like best. Then upload the image you emailed yourself. If you know how to check file size, your jpg should

The entire discussion above has left out what I feel is an important factor in a micro build or any other build for that matter. It was long ago definitively determined that more guides will track line better "along the blank", actually transferring more power from the blank into the line. Fuji outlined this advantage in the original New Guide Concept (which called for more, smaller gui

Are you sure you have a Y frame guide? It can be confused with the V frame. We have an LVSG6, the Sic Gunsmoke in a V. Have your supplier contact us if you think this will solve your problem.

If you're just experimenting and curious, try a 25, 16, 8, 6, 6, 6, 6. I drew a to-scale set up in Illustrator and plugged in a variety of heights to compare some frames. If this will control the line in the early part of the cast and maintain a good load profile it will save you a lot of weight. I had a 6'6" spinning rod at the rod show with our new high frame 12 ring stripper and it was qu

I must be missing something, please clear this up for me. The difference in a KL30 (60.1mm) and an HV30 (61.5mm) is 1.4mm. How much further out the blank do you have to move the K to make up a difference of 1.4mm? The tilt of the ring should have nothing to do with the height. K's are measured like every other Fuji guide from the foot to the top of the ring frame. It's a straight, vertical measur
