KR Concept uses a new concept from Fuji called "Rapid Choke" which actually shortens the reduction train by inches and usually only requires 3 guides max and sometimes only two. A shorter reduction train leaves more rod to cover with running guides, and the ones you add will fall in the "power" or mid-section of the rod. Fuji documented stresses high enough in this area to war

I think most of them got the idea from a Kool cigarette billboard that ran years ago. Upside down spinner...six feet tall for the world to see. I thought "man those New York ad execs need to get out more". Anybody remember that billboard?

Keeping the brush submerged works well, but a word of caution. Sand or scrape all the paint off of the brush handle. The vapors will melt the paint and stain your cleaning fluid. Learned the hard way.

No, the ACSM seat has no cork split grip at present. Anglers Resource will be stocking one in about 60 days.

Looks like you nailed it. A two guide reduction train is "state of the art" and keep things very light ( I'm not counting the size 6 at the choke point since you could have made that a 4 as well). Extra 4's won't hurt a thing and could actually help. A size 4 in stainless weighs around one half gram, you won't even notice them.

The surf blanks are amazing. I built the 12 foot model late last summer with KW's, KL's and KT,s and it's a better man than me. I save it for rough days on the gulf when I need 4 to 6 oz of weight to stay on bottom and I don't come close to "testing" its capability. I hear the same thing about all their rods.

TRUE Mr. Bill! I was simply regurgitating Fuji info to the best of our ability but you are exactly right. The KB would be my choice all the way on a heavier casting rod with 4 or 4.5 runners.

I just published a blog that details our build method for the new KR CONCEPT rod. We have been working with Fuji's input and concept (and building rods) since last July when we first saw these guides and we feel we've nailed down the concept as they intended it to be presented. Now that the KL-H and KB guides are getting out to our customers, we wanted to make sure you all have the info needed to

Keep in mind that your rod will travel through an infinite number of bend configurations on every fish you catch. You'll never make "all the bends happy all the time". Load similar to what you think a strong actual fighting bend would be and position there. Many now believe (with the recent popularity of smaller guides) you can position to allow the line to touch the blank but not trave

Sensitivity is related to weight. SK2 is lighter than a conventional seat and should be more sensitive. Can you feel it? I think if you add it all up as part of a light blank, light train and light wrap rod it makes more sense than some other seats. Are we weighing hai...I mean splitting hairs....perhaps, but it does give you that extra little inch long place to decorate! ;-)

Fuji's KR CONCEPT is intended to be an evolution of the NGC, not necessarily a micro build concept. It follows the original idea of lighter weight, better line control, increased sensitivity, power etc., Tom is correct, there are a lot of similarities yet all seek the same ultimate goal. You can think of Fuji as "5 years behind the learning curve", but IMO it would be better phrased to

I'm thinking maybe the question "When is casting distance NOT important" would have created a pretty short thread! I have had the extreme good fortune of being in the "fishing biz" at almost every level for almost 30 years and that tenure has afforded me opportunities to fish a wide variety of species in lots of situations in fresh and saltwater. The importance (and advantage

Glad to see the "The GUIDE" stimulating some conversation. We send one "almost" every month ;-) so if you want to subscribe you don't have to worry about a constant barrage of pointless, uninteresting mail in your box. We won't send one if we don't have something to say. There is a subscription button on the website left sidebar at the bottom. There is also a new blog there

What a great opportunity to actually look our customers in the face...no keyboard, no telephone, no email. It’s amazing how much better a conversation gets with a handshake, a slap on the back and great big grin. It’s also amazing how many guys stop by knowing almost as much as we do about our newest products! Your eagerness to learn, apply and experiment with Fuji’s research is gratifying

Right Tom, and since a particular height will "seek" its own position in that line path, the decision left to the builder becomes working with the distances apart different height guides will fall. A source of some confusion in GPS has been the fact that we provide the position of ALL guides of the chosen frame model. It's up to the builder to chose a stripper that falls in the right RA

A cork foregrip for the spinning body is coming soon. It's actually nothing more than a smidge of cork for your thumb to rest on when casting but if you've ever dealt with the threaded barrel working on your thumb all day, you'll like this little guy. We also have a cork rear grip for the spinning body that we'll have in a month or two (it would be used for downlocking set-ups). Again it is a fai

We know of some very heavy experimental rods, casting 4 to 6 oz of weight, that are using only the new single foot Fuji KB in size 4mm all the way out. They are performing perfectly in tests.

If you size the winding check properly it should not need any reaming. In addition, if you ream using a drill you risk burring, or even melting the ID of the winding check. The best solution will always be a properly sized winding check. Ream the body and hood assemblies to fit , place the winding checks in position with no epoxy, epoxy the hood and body into a final position and BEFORE THE EPOXY

Fuji suggests that bait casting reels that sit high off the blank and still utilize a worm gear that drives the pawl back and forth on a cast do, in fact, benefit from a "stripper" guide (older models for example). They further find in their research that there is enough of a "wave" coming from the spool on a casting reel that a slightly larger stripper is beneficial, even a 5

Capt Neil I sure wasn't trying to rag on somebody who takes care of their stuff. I could take lessons from you! Just making the point that if stainless turns orange for some and not for others there must be an explanation hidden somewhere in the building process. If we can isolate places where it happens and why, it should help everyone. My apologies.

Capt Neil just convinced me to never use anything but Titanium on a saltwater rod! As we've discussed before, stainless "corrodes", it doesn't "rust". It will pit, chalk or flake depending on what attacks it but it can't oxidize iron (orange) because the nickle has all the steel bound up at a molecular level. Orange is an indication that, at some point, iron was introduced

They fit well and are available in .5mm increments. We expect to receive a shipment of new metalized winding check soon for the SK2. They will be silver, gold or black. They look really good and fit perfectly, like the current ones. It's usually best to go bigger rather than smaller. You can easily hide the difference and you save the hassle of a potential melt down or burrs in the plastic if yo

I can't believe Bill Stevens hasn't jumped all over this. He's the "metal guru" and he recently sent me down a research path that was a real eye-opener. I don't question the fact that many have had great success with Sharpies, but here's what happens (and yes, Mr Stevens, feel free to jump in a tell me how perfectly I explained this);) Stainless steel does not corride because of a pass

Last summer I made the decision to buy my first riding lawnmower. I noticed right away that Home Depot's price on the EXACT same John Deere or Husqvarna from a dealer was hundreds of dollars less. I found out that Home Depot moves enough units to have the big manufacturers make an "exclusive" model. The mowers are IDENTICAL, but one obviously doesn't recieve the level of attention and d
