Hi Adam and sorry to confuse you but when you say you get some line touch on the blank when under full load, what load are you using and what line rating blank is it......?? If I have a 8-10lb line class blank I will only make sure the line doesn't touch the blank at 5lb or half of the maximum line class .....so with this 8-10lb blank, I will only check the line doesn't touch the blank with a 5lb

Hi Joe: Thanks for the reply, I have solved your problem with the knots. this is an easy fix: have premium spools (no knots flaws or splices.) and the current spools (occasionally may contain joins,) let the builder make the choice.

Its annoying me, I keep getting knots usually midway through the 100yd size A metallic spools..grrrrrrrrrrr......Anyone else getting these surprises or are they only sent to Australia.... 5 in the past 3 weeks....and it always seem to be while doing the intricate wraps.......it would cost next to nothing to redo the spool with a full thread....!!!!!

I don't get it.....!!! I reckon it looks weird to have an offset on the stripper just to lay the line down level and flat, ive never had any problems with line laying over to one side with self levellers on reels and even just the finger to guide the line is better than having a cock-eyed guide.....sorry......just had to say it.....cheers.

Hi Roger, yes i agree its doesnt matter what blank if it works well. My issue is that the Sabre blanks I'm using are four to five times the cost of the Calstar, so price wise, it means a great deal.. AU$140+ for a Sabre compared to (US$35 for a Calstar plus freight for what i thought was the identical blank) .... I usually bulk buy of 20 or more so freight costs have a minimal increase per blan

That was great Russell, Didn't answer exactly what i needed to know but I came away from reading that as yes, Sabre & Calstar are linked, whether it be only be through the thoughts and ideas of some of the most highly respected rod builders. (and that, in itself has answered my questions.) Thanks again.

Thanks for that Tom. However It doesnt solve the Calstar & Sabre lookalikes and matching product codes... Does Calstar build the Sabre blanks...??

Hi: I use a few "Australian Sabre" e/glass blanks. Sabre Australia was bought out by Seeker rods about 20yrs so they are imported in from the States...a quick badge change and hey presto.... I have noticed that the Calstar e/glass purchasing codes are virtually identical as the Sabre blanks codes. Questions: If Seeker rods make the Sabre e/glass blanks, which i believe to be tr

Hi Adam, I have tried dozens of ways to put text, pictures, decals, etc etc on blanks and as far as i know it lifted because the material that it is printed on has a "memory" the decal wants to go back flat all the time.. i read that wrapping over the decal and letting it stay for a day or more can help a great deal, but no need to have another worry while doing blanks..if it is a prope

What purge.? .there's been a purge.???...ok own up, who purged.?? does that mean gold frames are out the window, gone, karput, only dis-continued stock available.?? bugger.!! Plenty of SVSG out there in gunsmoke Jim. My thoughts are any colour is better than the dreary chrome.

Alcohol .?? Its driving me spare....... "can wrap like santa claus but stuff it up on the home

Hi Bob, havent got a good camera here, it starts as small as a pin hole and it spreads out from there, i let 1 dry the other dry and it finished the size of a finger nail, (looks like something has taken a "smooth" bite out of the epoxy......(hope its not running around in my house.) lmao...... I'm a little bit convinced that it is some kind of contaminant as well.....but why nearly al

Hi all, been searching the archives for days now and I'm sure what i'm having trouble with is in here somewhere, so rather spend more and more time looking, thought id just ask....applying 2nd coat epoxy, all good, then a few minutes later, a dimple appears, then another, then another and so-on... not a bubble bursting . and as it cures it gets bigger, last night i thought if it happens again i w

Hi everyone.. very new to this site and to rod building, I would like to know how you all do a "static test" I presume thats setting out the guides before any wrapping is done.? Well, my problem is doing it, or rather should i say trying to do it on ultralight single foot rollers without them spinning around whilst doing a line touch test under drag/pressure. tried masking tape, not goo
