leather grip wrap

Hi All,

New to this site so go easy on me :)

I am new to rod building as well and have been finding it hard to get info on making leather wrapped grips.
From what I can tell the leather/synthetic tape is usually wrapped over a cork grip. The ends of the grips have to be featherd to the blank (a microbaloon mix should do) so that you can wrap from the blank up to and over the tape.
Thats about all I know. There are so many other questions that I have, including -

How is the neat intersection between the tape and the resin made?
How do you stop the edge of the resin (where it ends on the tape) cracking?
How is the intersection between the tape and the reel seat accomplished?

I love the look of the leather grips and would like to try this on the first rod that I build.

Does anyone know if there are youtube videos of the process (I have had a good look but couldn't find anything) ?

Any advice here would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Paul.

Hi Owen,

Wouldn't mind clarifying a few of the mysteries of leather grip construction myself. Can I also request the same email of you? dnewman80@gmail.com

Cheers.
