I really don't know why the reasoning Paul, but at a guess they are trying to cover their A*** but also trying to help us out.!! Speed thread apparantly already has CP so i dont understand why they suggest putting more, SO..... I wrapped a sample of Brilliant blue the other day. put flexcoat CP on half and left the other half as is off the spool, epoxied it yesterday morning and there is a b

Ive been a threadmaster user for awhile now and i had no idea it was one of the hardest, (I love it for light build for the first coat ) .. i rarely build rods heavier than 10kg so this cracking is relatively new to me.. I have taken all messages onboard with grinding of feet and the more i look at these big foots, the more determined i am to get it right... and to be honest i would rather use a

After a few more e-mails and phone calls today to Frogley's, they have conceded that there was a problem with the blue's awhile back but have apprantly resolved those fading issues and stand by their product. However, when pressured to give me a over the phone garauntee they quickly dismissed it with to many variables involved such as CP's, epoxies used and drying times etc etc... I was more th

Just off the phone to frogley's national sales manager Ashley, and he tells me its very popular with rod builders and never had a problem with it.!!!!!!!!!!! but he then tells me to put a CP on it before epoxy.?? but they advertise that speed threads already have a CP in it.... and the only feedback im getting on here and elsewhere is that it will definately fade quickly no matter what i do......

thanks for the info, Im going to start my own thread making company.....I'll make something that fades real quickly under UV rays and sell it to rod builders who put it on fishing rods and use them outside under UV rays.. what a great idea.!!!....might offer my services to Speed yes...annoyed...4 complete re-wraps on the agenda. might put a preserver on and see what happens.

Not sure if "Speed" thread is available in the USA but have just completed 4 X 37kg - unlimited chair rods ready to epoxy and have just been informed that this particular colour "Brilliant blue" has a problem with rapid fading... has anyone used this before and encountered this problem.????????? The only reason I used this colour is that it matches the clients boat exactly.

I have 40 spools of Gubebrod NCP black. when clients ask for a particular colour for intricate wraps between the black and i have it in stock, i use it whether its NCP or not..(mixing NCP colours with colours that need a CP sounds as though it could be the problem.) so being unable to brush a CP onto these intricate wraps that need a CP i do the entire wrap, including over the black NCP as well..

I was under the impression that a colour preserver is designed specifically to stop the uv rays form bleaching the thread (the polymer in the colour preserver deflects the uv rays).... its not just for darker/lighter shades as the epoxy goes on.... .or....of course.....i could be wrong.....

Hi Dale. you seemed to have answered your own questions......just cut the cork where you want with want you want.. a good idea to cut the middle out if there are tenons on the ends. glue them back together with a water proof glue, then sand it back to the shape you want......use 100 grit maybe to start off then get finer down to, lets say 160 grit..... its fairly easy.... razor blade would be

Hi everyone.... I have been having an issue with slight fading of some colours, nothing specific but this has got me beat... I gave a coat of preserver over a NCP Black thread, (just 1 light coat) waited the recommended 24hrs.. then epoxied, after the epoxy dried the black had a very faint grey tinge.......totally bewildered why.?? any thoughts.??.....

Brian, Any competition is good competition.. it makes you strive to be better than him and he does the same, quality gets better from both of you and you end up with a good reputation because your "competition" is always pushing you to do better.. i would gladly accept a few more rod builders in the town i live in.

Hi Brian, so you want to build fishing rods........Congrat's big time......I hope I'm talking for most builders here when i say, IT AIN'T ROCKET SCIENCE...........BUT...... you will need to have a science degree in patience, a masters in determination, a really big rubbish bin for the disasters and a very very large pocket chock-o-block full of money...........GOOD LUCK...... nearly forgot to

Roger, i really hope you don't use your dryer at 200rpm like you say you do...!!!! the epoxy would be splattered on the ceiling and back wall at that rate......im thinking you set it about 20rpm maybe...i only use 12 and works great ...for me....

Roger, I dont know if i want to become a believer..!!!!!!? lol... I saw a rod a couple of yrs ago in Fiji with the guides wrapped right around the blank, the first thing i thought was blank twist then unwelcome angled stress on guides, shook my head, walked away and bought a beer...it just seems wrong, pressure going one way on the spine at the tip and the other way at the reel. has any blank
