I was given a Central Machinery 14 x 40 lathe. I woul like to put an adjustable Chuck on it but it has a 5/8 spindle and I can't find an adapter to go from 5/8 to 3/4 or 1 inch. Any ideas out there? I have searched all over the Internet trying to find one...no luck. Maybe someone with more experience with lathes can steer me in the right direction. It is a model T31082 lathe.

Roger, this is mostly for you as you gave me a lot of lathe instructions....but, I'm a newbie and have already failed at my first order on chucks. When the ordered the lathe is bought this chuck for the head...2 In. MT1 Shank Mini Lathe Drill Chuck... It's a 3 jaw chuck that I planned on using in the head stock and using a live center for the tail stock. I don't know why but I thought I'd be able

Hi, my objective is to make my own cork grips for flyrods and spinning rods and also learn how to do inlays and things like that. Ive been doing research on the subject on here and elsewhere. I'm getting ready to purchase a lathe and accessories. The confusing part for me is the tool chucks, keyless chucks, tail stocks etc. Are the following items proper and compatible with each other. I was watching a You-tube video and saw a lathe where had the cork was already attached to the rod blank. The majority of the blank went through the head stock( guides were not attached yet). Does anyone know what type of lathe this is and where I might find one---- a company not necessarily a store?

After a couple/few years hiatus I've decided to put my workshop together and dive back into building some weapons. I was blessed with literally hundreds of items from a former builder who retired. While arranging my limited space I remembered that my lathe is just too large and antiquated for my needs. I'm looking for some ideas on a compact useful lathe for handles. Thanks Mike

Since there are lots of turners here I was wondering if anyone had any strong preferences for a 4 jaw chuck for a Grizzly model 8690 mini wood lathe. I got this one cheap from someone who did pen turning. I think this one has a compression /spindle fitting (that is stuck)

Not much happening on the forums the past few weeks. I guess everybody is fishing and that’s great, but I have a project and ANGLERS?RESOURCE NEEDS YOUR?HELP. The project code name is ”Area 51”, a clandestine off-site location near downtown Foley where we are currently planning a hidden ”research facility” designed to answer any and all questions that may come up about Fuji and/or other produc

Hey guys I earned a few extra dollars at work this month and am looking to spend the money on a lathe or power wrapper to start doing custom grips.I like the idea of the lathe because I can turn the grips off of the blank and turn wood accents if I like .I'm looking at lathe from harbor freight with a 17" bed for pretty cheap. Or just a very basic power wrapper for a little more. I'm wonderi

Hi All, I’m new to the forum and have some experience building rods, but it was a long time ago. I remember resting the rods on my legs to wrap them when I was a kid. Now I’m ready to move forward and am looking to buy a power wrapper. I don’t plan to get one of the high end machines like the Renzetti or Custom Power Wrap, but rather the next step down. It seems to me the machines sol

Have any of the builders here experimented with making metal parts out of aluminum or brass? Stuff like custom winding checks?

Hello All - Wondering if anyone knows what size the head stock spindle is on the Renzetti lathe and what MT it is? I am unable to find it on their website and honestly can't remember other than that it is smaller than my JET Mini Lathe. I can of course measure it but am away from the shop and amy trying not to wait. Any help appreciated. Thanks! Bill

What is the opinion of Grizzly mini lathes? Good as jet an Delta? Stay away? They seem to have good customer service policy from what I can tell from google searches.

Hello everybody, I remember reading about adding a poker chip inlay in a cork grip and I thought it would be a cool accent piece between 2 types of cork. I am turning my first cork grip and I had some questions. I searched the Forum but did not find specifics about the following. I will be gluing rings to a mandrel and turning on a mini lathe. Since the poker chips will not sand the same a

I am just getting into turning my own handles. Bought a Jett Mini Lathe. I have a chuck for the tail stoch that I have used to hold a bit for drilling out but caps ect. What do I need to turn on a mandral? I thought all I needed was 2 chucks one for the head stock and one for the tail stock. I quickly realized that the chuck I have for the tail stock does not turn. What do I need?

I have one of the original JET 1014 mini lathes. I think this was the first one on the market. Probably had it for a dozen years. After much good service the motor has finally given up the ghost! Before I go through a JET dealer for a replacement, I was wondering if anyone knew of a place that sold similar replacements or upgrades. My motor doesn't have any identification information on it, maybe

I have been cruising a couple of the rod building forums and found lots of great information. Amazing how many talented and ingenuous builders out there. Sorry about the series of questions but don't know where else to get expert advice. I have been doing some research on rod lathes and know this is opening a can of worms. I am looking for something that I can turn cork handles to start with

Hi Guys, looking for quick advice on the Jet 10in x14in 1/2 HP Lathe. It is on sale now for what I think is a great price, 375.00. I currently have a real old craftsman lathe which has served me well but I am looking for something a little smaller. Thanks in advance, Scott

I'm new to the forum and have been here for a few weeks. I have been reading posts back for almost 10 years regarding lathes for rod building. It seems like there are a lot of different approaches for using different types and sizes of lathes for rod building work. One approach I've been reading about is using a metal lathe only for turning grips, reel seat inserts ferrules etc depending on if

Hello folks. I am getting the truck packed up with my wares and headed to Winston Salem tomorrow morning. I am looking forward to seeing everyone at the show! I will be conducting mini Seminars at my booth. In an effort to not step on any toes of those giving seminars, I will be conducting them on the half hour, a few times each day. If you ever wanted to learn how to apply Mother of Pearl

Just got off the phone with Morris. His official seminars will include basic wood turning, grip coring, lathe boring, working with EVA and "how do you...?" He'll also be doing some mini-demos in his booth, which will include sharpening lathe tools, and anything else you'll like to see done in person. I'll have a little more information on this later in the week. Morris suggested

Ok I think I am going to make the plunge and buy a used JML 1014I from a guy for a pretty good price. What do I need to make it functional for rod building. I mostly do bass rods. I will probably only be using it for cork until I figure out the fancier stuff I can do. Any other suggestions on what I will need? Thanks
