Hello All and Happy Fourth
When building a split grip rod, (casting and spinning) can anyone tell me if there is a standard or an assumed correct distance from the blank butt to the reel or reel seat?
Thanks in Advance,
Bill

Hi Paul,
Congrats on your new rod and successful fishing. Sounds like you're going to be in for a heck of a summer.
You're sure right about the great info you get on this forum. All my days start out the same; I check my email and then check this forum and I'm good to go.
Good luck on the rest of the season.

Hi James,
When I first moved to Florida, many years ago, I brought along my old South Bend rod. This was a rod that I had used for years catching Salmon and it had served me well. When a friend offered me a a chance to go trolling for kings I jumped at the chance and, not knowing what to expect, I took along the old South Bend. As it turned out, it worked well and I pretty much went away with

I've been dealing with Kathy and "the girls" for years. Good products, good prices and great people.

Put your finger on the wrap to maintain tension, then cut enough thread off the spool to finish the Fordam wrap, then finish the wrap by hand.

Thanks guys. I was using Flex Coat but nothing worked. I stripped the guides off and started all over again.
Thanks for all the suggestions.

16. Bubbles In CP
Hi All,
When I checked my wraps this AM I found that last night's last application of CP dried badly bubbled. I guess I must have shaken it before applying although I was careful not to. Is there any way to get these bubbles out.
Many Thanks.

Jeremy,
I agree with Phil. By putting on too much pressure, you can smash the inlay which may or may not ever regain it's form and original size. You should be able to tell if and when you're using too much pressure to glue up the grip by detecting any rings that looks like they may be bulging or becoming distorted under the pressure.
Good Luck

Hi Dennis,
Welcome to the Craft. A word of caution: There's no known cure for this affliction and the only medicine I know of is to keep learning and building.
To get off to a good start I would highly recommend getting the "Decorative Wraps" book by Billy Vivona, the "Rod Building Guide" by Tom Kirkman and get a subscription for the RodBuilder magazine.
Good luck.

I'd try Billy first and if he can't help you; I check out Merrick Tackle (on the left).
Good Luck.

Hey Mud Hole,
Isn't your Gorillas exactly what Russell Brunt, on page one, is asking for? Also, I'd like to have the same thing he's asking for in both a spinning and conventional rod. Is Gorilla what I;m looking for and and will the 6.5's do the trick?
Thanks,
Bill
