Customer wants guides like these on a rod. What are they? Can't find anything like them in my catalogs. They are frosted silver with a blue ring. The size 25 is 2 3/16" high. I didn't build this one and the builder moved out of the country.

A friend gave me a rod to fix (factory built). He said a guide was loose...spinning around the rod. Upon further inspection, all the guides were loose. I was able to strip the rod by sliding the guides off the tip, wraps and all. You can't tell where the wraps were on the blank. Why did this happen? The epoxy didn't bond to the blank at all, even where it overlapped the blank. The blank is

After more than a year and a bunch of rods for my friends & family, I finally get to build some for myself. left to right: 4C70MHF, 4S70MM & 4C69MLXF with Alps reel seat.

This is my first grip turned from rings. It is on a 4S70MM blank, to be used as a crankbait rod.

I had to pass on the Jet cause the dog blew out her knee. So, this is what I ended up with (Penn State drill press lathe). So far, it's the best $20 I've spent on this rodbuilding sickness I have. I guess my drillpress is now a multi-tool!

Hopefully with the paint underwrap, I won't get a case of the splotchies once the finish is applied.

NFC has one, but you better catch it on a free shipping sale. I certainly wouldn't want to pay to ship a 9' blank!

Lucky you. My customer just cancelled 3 rods from me because blanks ordered on July 8th didn't arrive in a timely fashion. I cancelled my blank order on Monday

Nature of the beast. All hardeners yellow, some just faster than others. As for the flakes in the resin, a blast of about 5 seconds in the microwave or a bottle soaking in hot water will melt them.

I have a rod I built in a hurry to fish one weekend. Didn't have time for finish. That was 5 or so years ago. Nothing but good old Gudebrod A nylon holding the guides on. I have to adjust one that gets knocked out of alignment now and then. It really needs rewrapped because the thread is starting to get stained and has some mildew on it. I 100% believe the thread is what holds the guides.

Don't know if it's worth double the Immortal, but it's USA made and that is worth it so some.

None of the above, but I'm a SCV snob. If you want to stay with one of the listed brands, I'd go with a Rainshadow Eternity. It's the closest thing to a SCV I've found.

27. Re: St Croix??
I have mixed feelings about this. On one hand, St Croix has accounted for 95% of my builds, SCIII making up a large portion of them. On the other hand, I've been wanting unpainted SCV blanks for a long time.

The buddy's shop is an absolute wreck and he shouldn't use it as a template. Upon moving to a new house in the spring, said shop will be rebuilt from scratch on the second floor of a 24'x32' garage. 2 rooms, one for dirty tools and one for wrapping and finishing. Just trying to get by til then!

29. Re: Old Epoxy
I'd wager the fast curing, heat throwing one is an adhesive epoxy and not thread finish.

I wrap by hand on my power wrapper. I only use the power to apply finish at high speed.
