Having trouble when using light colored threads . I always seem to get a blotchy finish . Pack and burnish threads well.Put one coat of color preserve on which I think is my mistake. Will another covering of CP do the trick? Besides painting the rod and guide under the thread. Any suggestions? thanks

My concern was that the outer shell would be dry but the inner coatings might still be "soft" Subjecting a rod to next day casting could be harmful.

Been using the Forhan Locking Wrap just as an added precaution. Some where I read that there is a way to loop the thread around the stem of the guide. Seems like a better way. Ive tried it several times but it doesn't make a nice wrap . Anyone know this technique?

Dave, thank you for clarifying casting techniques. I did take it the wrong way. I'm in the the process of building a medium fast action rod which holds some promise , power in the medium range , I started it before initiating my topic. . I like to think out of the box and have perhaps thought of some creative ideas which I will be glad to share. Joe Vanfossen recommended using 2 light worms to a

That was going to be my next question Joe , Ive been experimenting with slower rods they do load and throw the light bait better but Im sure I will loose a lot of fish because of poor hooking power. thanks for the tip

Thank you for all the information you have shared , Its a lot to digest. I'm a beginner in the art of bass fishing. . It would seem to me that a fast action rod and a light weight lure would not give the the rod time enough to load . Can you straighten me out on this point?

I have never built a bass rod, Interested in throwing plastic worms with out additional bullet weights I see that conventional rods have abt 15 inch handles for a 2 handed cast. On a 7 ft rod that leaves abt a 6 ft of actual casting rod. . Distance is an important factor will 6ft do the job? Im also considering a spinning rod better choice? .Rod is a medium fast. Plan to use braid line.

If you had 2 fly rods one was a 2 section rod the other a 4 section both 9ft 4w same action. We are talking about weight, casting ability, sensitivity, durability, number of guides etc Which rod would be the better performer? Is there a difference because of the extra sections ?

Roger I live on the outer banks . In my opinion your to light to cover all situations . If your throwing 3 0z you have not considered the bait, wind or current. Most guys throw 4 to 5 oz plus bait. That is for calm surf and sunny days . I would consider a rod that could handle a 5 weight sinker . To really get out there there are groups that 11 and 12 ft rods and 5weights plus bait. 10 to11ft

There are deer hair bugs that float on the water He speaks about throwing spinners and streamers Said he wanted the option to throw small plugs . I believe the small plugs are more of a ultra light rod application?

Hi Chip, use it in both instances. Here is what I do . Measure it out, heat it with a hair dryer till its almost the consistancy of water . Mix , then a little blast afterwards to knock out the small bubbles, After Ive coated if there is any that need for bubble killing I repeat.. The hair dryer is great it never bubbles the finish. If Im using the hair dryer on finished guides I always point the
