For instance, a rod 7 feet in length is going to require about 8 guides
plus a tiptop. On half foot sizes, say, 7 and 1/2 feet, round up to the next full
length. So a 7’6†rod would require about 9 guides plus a tiptop. sorry for the confusion Tom

Building a xst1024f Rainshadow. Using concept method ,from the choker guide to the tip of the rod is 43 inches. Using little more than 4 inches between each guide it will take 10 guides . The total length of the rod is 8 1/2 ft using 9ft for calculations.
Using the tip top and 3 running guides the total amount of guide comes out to 14 guides does that sound right?

try elastic thread it can be bought in Walmart for less than $3.00 you can wrap it on your guides cast and if there is any adjustments to be made the guide can be moved a 1/2 inch or so in either direction. I test all my surf casting rods that way.

Going to Steelhead fishing this fall trying to get prepared. We will be casting from shore with spinners . What size reel will I need? Read an article which said a size 20 reel with 8# momo was sufficient .Seemed a bit lite to me?

Great idea Dave but that technique does not allow me to Slide the reel from low to high position Phil form what I read it does increase the distance but it is contingent on many other factors. For me ,I like how the rod balances in the low position. You can use your right hand more effectively with out holding on to the reel and personally I think it gives more distance. I cant swear to this bu

When I surf cast I place the reel in the low position then slide the reel seat up the rod to a position of comfort and better fish fighting capabilities. I have used butt extensions to acheive a more comfortable position and have rigged the reel seat so a clamp will go over the seat to hold it in place. Im always looking for better ways of accomplishing the sliding seat position . Any suggeat

Terry I agree with you there are too many variables that were not taken into consideration. To name a few guide height, ring size, type of ring.Reel and spool size. Line friction. In my opinion his experiment shows the longer the object is less force is needed to bend it.

I use wire ties. I figure out where I want the giude then go up the the rod a 1/4 inch make it slightly snug p lace the guide under the tie and it slide it into position . you can make it very tight if you want .For wrapping guides you can a slide and adjust very easily. Try to place the tie as far forword as you can it will help to keep the tip of the guide down, still leaving room to start

106. epoxy mixer
Bought my first poxy mixer.. Ive always used medicine cups with great success. I would measure mix and apply. With the epoxy mixer I have to place the epoxy in medicine cup and the transfer the unmixed epoxy to the epoxy mixer cup.Im concerned that Im not going to get all the unmixed out of the medicine cup which may lead to a bad batch. How do you do it.

Mike I did talk to the rep. It was abt 6or 7 months ago. To my recollection the only one he did recommend was the black and gold saying it was very popular in Europe. I dont recall whether he recommended them or any others of the 3's for salt water use. This was the reason for my inquirey.

I got the basics down and was really interested longer casts at the beach.Im 76 yrs old and can still cast with the big boys not as far but Im out there.

I was speaking to a Pac Bay represenitive and he said that it was the particles of sand that collect on the line and act as an abrasive. Its been a while but Im sure he said that.Is there any truth to that ?
