Just wondering what the rest of you do in relation to accounting. Do you do simple expense and revenue categories or go into Cost of Goods Sold and inventory. I am wanting to drill down a little more specifically and just want to make sure I understand the accounting of it. Say I go to build a rod, order the products. For the actual components.....do I receive them into inventory first and

Great idea! Don't know the cost, but was considering building the unit double walled so I could put insulation in between. Even looking at using large HVAC ductwork with the same double walled idea, would have to reinforce one side in order to hinge it and have access to the rods, but will let everyone know what I come up with. Thanks for the ideas and tips. Elrod

Thanks Mark. I kinda was thinking the same thing, my only concern is I don't think alot of air movement would be good, so I was thinking along the line of what bamboo ovens are like. Heat source at one bottom corner, with a channel along the bottom for the heat to exit at the other end of the box (inside), then have an exhaust in the opposing upper corner. Don't know if that makes sense.....ha

Thought I might add when I used Windblows....:) Peachtree made an awesome software called One-Write Plus. Much cheaper than quickbooks, just as powerful and much more user friendly. I just heard they are discontinuing the production of One-write, (doesn't mean they will discontinue support though) so might be able to find it really cheap. Had great area to add rod data and such and will handle

As some methods described before, I place the tiptop and the next guide on the blank. Center the line on the reel and run it through the tip guides. I then place the guides along it's natural path. Makes sense to me and has worked well. Various lenths and diameters of blanks will require various placement of guides, I let the line tell me where it wants to go. There may be better methods an

I used a very early version of this software. Does a satisfactory job, but if you are good with Excel can make something just as good and better. I use my business accounting software to keep all that info. That way, one place has all the information. I'm on Mac so I use MYOB.

Had same issues with an different manufacturer. Recieved multple blanks with similar issues. After the 4th or 5th one and them not willing to cover expenses of shipping, I refuse to use their product any more for building blanks. At $10-20 per blank for shipping, it isn't worth it. SO make sure THEY fix THEIR problem and not at your expense. I use alot of St. Croix and have so far been very

Nope, just chuck the rod on one end and use a rod support or two for the rest of it. A rod support is as simple as an upright piece of wood with a "V" cut into it (line it with felt or cloth to prevent marring the blank). The only "technical" part of building a dryer setup is you want the blank to be a perfectly level as possible, I used to stack pieces of paper under the s

If the wraps are footballed, you don't have to completely take out the wraps and redo everthing. Let everything completely harden. After that take a very sharp exacto and start shaving the wraps back to level. Just be careful over the guidefeet and such, if you graze the threads it will have to be redone. I have never known what caused this, but if you get into the threads it will produce a l

Anyone out there using a heated drying unit? I have plans for an oven in relation to bamboo building, but maybe somehting more simplified for assisting in the finishing of guide wraps. Would be great if some had plans to share, or simply an explanation of what they did. I looked at the photos on the site and saw a heated wall unit....just can't quite tell the setup from the pics. Thanks for

Check out www.allelectronics.com Bought a couple of different rpm motors there for under $4 and they have lasted over 2 years. Hard to beat and they have just about any shaft size etc. you could want.

I have a homeade setup I use that allows mandrel turning of cork on turning while on the blank (that is what I do). Here is a link to an article I wrote a couple of years ago about it. I now use a sewing machine motor instead of a drill, but it's all the same. WOrks great.
