Batson has a three piece 7' travel rod: SWT 70 H - SWT 70 MH - SWT 70M. I just came back from Alaska and I carry these rods in a tube strapped to my backpack. No problems with the airlines - plus these are great rods.

John, You put the mandrel into the drill chuck. The Grizzly Hobby Lathe uses an electric drill for the motor. The Grizzly stock point holds the other end of the mandrel with the 60 degree tapered center. I use mine a lot.

I am building a spinning rod. I have created a water brake surface on the blank. I am using Rod Bond and an Alps Aluminum real seat. My question is do I need to do anything to the inside of the Alps real seat? Thanks for your help.

I bought a Custom Power Wrapper from Angler's Workshop - never been out of the original box - the shipping lable states June of 2002. I have heard and read that most of the chucks on the power wrappers need to be replaced. I am wondering if any of you know if this one needs the updated chuck? If so any recommendations? Thank you in advance for any help.

Claus, Check out the Batson SWT70H3, SWT70MH3, and SWT70M3. I have used both the H and MH in Alaska fishing for salmon. Great blanks, 3 piece easy for travel, and plenty of backbone.

I have built several rods using the simple spiral wrap with bumper guide, and several using the 0, 60, 120, 180 degree method. With the later, I placed the butt guide and did a static guide test. Check out Batson Rainshadow RX6/E multi-purpose 3 piece rods. I have built two each of the SWT70H-3 heavy and SWT70MH-3 medium heavy for fishing in Alaska. Excellent rods!! I am in the process of building the SWT70M-3. I am sure that one of the three will fill the bill for you
