I have a family member in the Coast Guard who is moving to Kodiak Alaska and wants a rod for salmon fishing. Does anyone know a good blank to use for salmon fishing there. I have no idea what would be a good blank, length, power, action, etc and they apparently don't either. Any help is appreciated.

Lamiglas GSA1022H used on the Kenai Special factory rod. Light enough for the smaller species with enough backbone for the bigger species, they also make a 9 ft version the GSA1082H.. You can fish right on the Air Station in Kodiak. Is he an airdale or on the buoy tender? Retired an E-7 for the CG. Been there done that. Batson's ISA 1026 or 1086 would work also. Batson Rainshadow ISA 1086 F 12 ~ 25 lb 3/4 ~ 11/2 OZ for Kings and Rainshadow XST 1084 F 8 ~12 lb 3/8 ~ 3/4 oz and XST 1085 F 10 ~ 17 lb 1/2 ~ 3/4 oz for silvers. I use these rods in Southcentral Alaska for kings and silvers. Re: Alaska Salmon Fishing Rod

It really depends upon which species of Salmon he will be fishing for. Kings (Chinook) require a much heavier rod then do Silvers (Coho). Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
