I am working on a project that I need to place some decals over some composite. I'm assuming I can apply the decals on the cured resin and then top coat with Spar Urethane? Waterslide or peel and stick decals?? Thanks in advance, Noel

Daniel, I sent you an email. On a side note, I am good friends with the current owner of Waterloo. We have been friends for a VERY long time now and he wont even tell me what blanks he uses...and trust me I've caught him at some pretty weak moments when large quantities of adult beverages were involved and he still wont tell me!!! Hahahaha!! I was just at his shop yesterday and they are very,

I have two Penn Mariner boat rods in here to replace the tips on and I have never seen a tip that was so hard to get off!!! Usually I put the rod on my wrapper and heat the tip up a little and they pull right off, but this one wont budge. I am heating to the point i'm getting nervous about ruining the blank. Anyone have any suggestions??? Thanks in advance, Noel

Aaron, A popping rod is used down here on the Gulf Coast when your throwing live shrimp or croakers under a popping cork. You chunk it out and jerk the rod to create a "popping" sound with the cork to simulate fish feeding to get those big ol' trout and redfish to come check out what going on. I use a 7' 6" Rainshadow popping blank for my crankbaits when I'm bass fishing, works

Oh man I really hate to hear that. I was one of the lucky ones who knew Gerald personally and he definatly was one of the nicest, most generous men I knew. I met him for the first time at All Star during the first Texas Gathering and we have been friends, via phone and email, ever since. When the second gathering was being planned my wife looked forward to meeting Gerald as she had heard alot ab

As I was watching a rod dry in my power wrapper I was wondering why you guys thought that manual drying (turning by hand) produces a better looking finish job? I would think that drying under power would turn out better but that is not what I have heard from those that do it manually, i.e. Tom. Any thought?? Thanks, Noel

Dick, Most that I know of "farm" out the guide wrapping to people looking for a few extra bucks. They get paid by the piece, so thats why most (not all) production rods you see the guides aren't placed very well. Hope this helps, Noel Spann

Bill, Ellis, Jerry, I just got 2 sets of Titans in this week to go on a couple of rods. I noticed they looked a little taller too, both rods will be conventional style so I'm looking forward to your findings with these also. Noel

Rich, Check out the Library and read an article called "Static Guide Placement" by Tom Kirkman (second article from the bottom). It should answer all your questions, if not come back. Hope this helps, Noel

Gene, I use the smallest "zip ties" or cable ties I can find. Wrap up a little ways and snip em' off with a small pair of side cutters. Hope this helps, Noel

Eric, Cut a drinking straw into 2" pieces and lay them lengthwise, one on each end of your wrap. Wrap your first layer of tape over these and when your done you can insert the tip of your scissors and cut it off tape, thread, and all. Hope this helps, Noel

I had the same concern as Andy did. I dont use Calstar blanks but use others that dont come with decals either and was wondering if I could still get a decal for these. I was under the impression I couldn't when Jimi said "We have been asked by the owner of Calstar Rods to not produce decals with their name on them." But it sounds as if I can get the name but not a reproduction of thei

Matthew, I have actually had good luck doing that very same thing on a customers cheap rod. He said he didnt want to spend the kind of money it would of taken for me to fix it right, so I gave it a shot. I got a large needle from the local feed store here and attached it to a syringe. Drilled my hole in the channel that the front hood rides in, shot as much epoxy as I could get in there while s

I agree with Gerry and Tom, use the Flex Coat arbors. The masking tape MAY work but the F/C arbors are pretty cheap insurance. Hope this helps, Noel

Keith, Anything you can dream up on your computer, save it and send it to Jimi @ Decal Connection via email or snail mail and he will make a decal out of it. I personally have found images I liked on the web and saved the image and sent it to him and he made the decals for me. Hope this helps, Noel

Keith, If you do a search for "alps printers" here you'll find all the info you care to read, but i'll try and answer your questions here too. There is nowhere in the US to buy Alps printers anymore, I think the only place you can get them now is Austraila, and they are very expensive. You can find plenty used ones on @#$%& but be careful buying one from there because you may get

A guy gave me an older Garcia boat rod and I am wanting to rebuild it. This morning I was stripping off all of the old guides and noticed that is ferruled between the foregrip and reel seat. The reel seat is actually the female section of the ferrule and the foregrip (male end)slides down flush into the reel seat. Now I know I dont have anything like this laying around nor have I seen any, but I

I have a customers rod here that they want refurbished. They want to keep the rods "specs" on the rod. I know I can get a decal made with all the numbers on it but wanted to explore my options here. The current finish over the "specs" and butt wrap is kind of rough looking, like its scuffed up I guess. So can I put a new coat of finish over this and have it look good or will i
