We do have a few of the Titanium Chrome "X" series left. In the XSW, we have a XSW72MHM, on sale for $ 59.00 Just to be clear, any Batson model listed as a "Walleye" (or have the "W" designation, is in fact designed to have a more moderate action than a typical "Bass" blank. I use several of the "Walleye" blanks for both spinning and casting

And then there is the "old School" method of assembling the seat on a "rod" of some kind, about 2 ft long. Can be a scrap blank, wood dowel, anything that is fairly stiff and will let the cork slide down snugly to the reel seat. Make sure they are both fairly centered. Then, make a light pencil mark ( sharpened White wax marker is best) around the hood. Then, "careful

A few inches (2-3) should not be noticable. One way to tell is install just a tip top and tie a line to a substantial object to anchor it. Then grasp it at the very end and lift. Then try it a couple of inches farther up. and maybe another time or two until you get to the length you want. That will be a quick (and "shade-tree") test, and should help you determine whether to cut o

A thought on trying to match thread color on a repair job, or just decide on a color for a new build. Wrap the color you think you want, maybe just by itself, or next to an existing guide on a repair job. Then dab rubbing alcohol on the threads to mimic how it looks with finish on it. Don't like it? Just unwind and try a different color.

Look at the specs for "Walleye" blabks in the high end RX8 Batson blanks. Then compare those specs in the RX7 and RX6 series. There are many that will be close or the same. If we can be of help, feel welcome to call. Merry Christmas, Blessed New Year,

I like "up-lock" on all spin seats. But, an alternative is to use a larger, sz 17 or 18 conventional seat. That may give you the best of both worlds. Happy Thanksgiving,

I second Spencer. On our 2 local reservoirs we do a lot of bottom bouncing, and a fairly soft tip and moderate action work better here. That gives the fish a little extra time to take the bait. Something in a hybrid is what works well. A blank I have used and like is the Batson RDR70-M, or RDR710-M It is glass that blends into graphite for some good backbone, yet moderate action. We like

The tip top itself is the culprit more often than guides, if you notice line wearing rapidly, go there first. Hope this helps,

How about Orange main wrap, Black tipping, no underwrap? Use Color Preserver to maintain the original unless using "NCP" thread. You might want to reconsider the old guides. New style, lighter frames and rings can make quite a difference as to how it actually feels while fishing. If the blank is "scarred" where the original guides were, just rewrap newer style in the sam

We have used various lengths and powers of fly rod blanks over the years, they make great UL & Light spin rods. Especially if you like the more moderate action that bends pretty far down into the blank. That really helps with "shock absorption" on a big fish, and makes tossing light lures a little easier In your case, the 6&1/2 foot model might work well for you. They

Try to use a piece of blank that has a slightly thicker wall than the parent blank. That should make it "stiffer" at that point. If softer, you may get a "hinge" feeling in the handle area. And for sure, that it is a graphite scrap. And always, wrap over the area where you inserted the extension to reinforce it.

As a teenager, I joined a group that did "Tournament Casting " at a special concrete platform, in a pond in Lincoln Park, Chicago, ILL I was taught to turn the reel handles up, and that was with a conventional wrapped casting rod. The blank was a 6&1/2' very moderate action, custom Fiberglass blank. At that time, South Bend made a very small casting reel. We removed the level

The ease of set-up is a real plus for entry level builders, or anytime it needs to be done quickly. We actually mocked up some strippers before American Tackle came out with their kits, same theory. They all worked well, our fabricated strippers were pretty crude, but the concept is solid.
