I struggled with deciding between the 20-10 vs 16-8. I favor (but not by much) the 20-10 after doing a handful of builds on ML - M rods all using 2500 reel and 8-10 lb braid. I don't think there's a wrong choice here though.

Correct . Grip and seat permanently fixed. What remains is a little less than 1/16 in gap where it did not adjoin. I do have pro paste in hand I used for the initial install

Gap between the reel seat and nfc rear grip after epoxy paste is just under 1/16 inch. Think the kids got messing with it before dried or builder error lol .was thinking mixing 5 min epoxy and applying thin coat to the gap. Probably better options. Thanks in advance to the great builders out there, Mark B

Cut back the oversleeve to about 1.5inches , abandoned the inner sleeve per your suggestions and 15min epoxy used to attach. Smaller sleeve looks good. Thank you all for the help , its always appreciated. -Mark B

Hi, rod repair for ML 6'6 bass rod. Break 13 inches from the tip. Read Ralph O'Quinn on how to fix it. I took off the guides leading to the break and have an oversleeve of just under 2 inches ready. He calls for an undersleeve of just 1/4 inch. Wondering if this is the length you still use? Thanks, mark

Hi El, Mike Ballard summed it up nicely. In regards to EVA....I have twice made the mistake of getting the EVA stuck trying to get it in place. Yes it does slide when lubricated with epoxy but sometimes not as much as you'd hope. Can't remember how large the OD of the rod vs the ID of the EVA. If I don't think I can get it in place easily I'll so some reaming. Its all part of the learning process

Any concerns with doing a tiger wrap on a light weight rod, specifically nfc sj 732 rated to jig 1/8oz. Wrap would be 3-4 inches above the foregrip. I put epoxy over the label but not happy with the look and so removed it.Would there be a noticeable decrease in sensitivity given the few extra coats of epoxy required. Thanks. -mark b

Chris, you will be fine with 50-65 lb braid. Buy the blank you want based on lure rating. Much much more important.

Sure, I've got a few outfits for down there. 1. 7'0 St Croix 3 piece travel rod rated ~ 1/4-1/2 oz with stradic 2500-3000 10-20 lb braid 2. 7'6 Immortal popping rod rated 1/4-5/8 with 3000 stradic 15-20 lb braid Using these for mostly 3-4 inch jigs, mirrordine lures, live shrimp (+/- small weight), spoons . Perhaps a little light but great action. 3. Heavier rod - shimano teramar (cant

Nicholas, I've fished the tampa /sarasota area a few times over the past few years. I have not targeted the surf per se rather the back bays, passes, piers, bridges for snook, speckled trout, reds, pompano, spanish mackerel. There are lots of opportunities for good fishing in that area depending on when you go and what you're looking to do. I love visiting the tackle shops and there are some ni

Heat gun to the glue plug worked great. Thanks Norm. Now working on a scrap graphite blank to suit as the inner plug. Absence of a taper in the handle a little tricky since all the scraps I have are tapered. I think I got it though. Will get back to work tonight. Thanks everybody.

Yes. Going to go inside. Took the but cap off, and inside of blank filled with hardened glue. Is there a trick getting this out without fracturing blank or Do I trim the blank back a few mm ? Thanks again, -Mark

So a woven glass tube to just fit snug inside the blank would be good bet?

Thank you all for the suggestions. You guys are always so helpful .Some reason I can not find the pics I uploaded. Anyway, Blank at the handle is not tapered and measures roughly 0.41 inches in diameter. I was thinking whatever plug I used would be tapered and thus present a problem. I'll search elsewhere for a scrap w little to no taper but think I got it.

Going to try my first repair. Rod is a 2 piece, slow pitch jigging rod, broke near the handle. Pics uploaded, link below. Costs too much to have rod replaced with warranty. I plan to use a scrap graphite blank of similar diameter for the sleeve (I do not have fiberglass blanks around). Should I approach this by taking the butt cap off or making a clean cut where damaged. I don't think there is a

Couple thoughts though I dont have the build experience as others here. I just finished a build with the cape cod slow pitch 662 pe1.5-4. These rods are intended to slow pitch jigs so you won't be casting anywhere near that weight. Imo The gosa 20k is alot of reel for that rod. I'm outfitting mine w gosa 6k and 40lb braid. As far as guides I also went with the kw 30 20 10 7 runners to an 8 tip to

Good pointers and thank you both for the comments! I should have known when I put the tip top on initially that it was too big but didn't give it much thought. Likely, a lack of experience. It was only after the build was complete that I realized the specs I was referencing was the heavier version of the rod with a rod tip of 2.40mm (my rod has a tip of 2.13mm). So that is why I had ordered th

22. Tip top
Just finished building a slow pitch spinning rod. Tip top fuji mnat8(6.5).glued it on , wrapped the tenon w thread then two coats of epoxy along with the guides. Realized afterwards that the tip of rod was 2.13mm (manufacturers specs)and that I should've used a smaller tube size such as 8(6). It certainly seems secure but now I'm wondering if I should get the appropriate top or not even fret th

Happy New Year to you all. Looking for guide suggestions on a new build for the north fork SW 765 LMX rated 1/2-3oz. Plan to use it primarily as a boat rod for stripers, bluefish, and topwater blackfin (to around 20 lbs), AJs. Will be using shimano 5-6K , braid 30-50 lb, to a short 50 lb fluoro leader (2-3 ft). I'm torn between using double foot fuji KW for the reduction guides then KB/KT 6 or

Hey mike , I'm not from canada but did get started 3-4 years ago and bought a kit from mudhole to start. You will not go wrong calling mudhole or getbitoutdoors (there are others but those are who I frequently call and are VERY HELPFUL). Call them and they'll get you started. And then you'll need more and more. But keep it simple to start , and don't go crazy until after a few builds.Your at th

I always appreciate your suggestions and advice. I started tearing it apart at first because I didnt care for the size 20 reel seat that's on it. And in the process figured I'd lower the new reel seat 4 inches to where it now sits at 20 inches rather than 24 inches. Hoping to tackle the rest of it this weekend.

Thank you all for the advice. I'm going to do what you advised and get rid of the foregrip and start a new. I'm going to move the reel seat down a few inches as mentioned and may / may not put another eva foregrip but leaning more towards the cork tape/ xflock as the foregrip with wrapped thread transitioning to the blank . My only remaining concern is how far can I take the sanding. If doing

I have an 11 foot CTS surf rod I am building. I had installed a reel seat along with an eva foregrip and rear grip but not liking the reel seat I removed this and the rear grip. I'm wanting to move the reel seat (size 18) further down on the blank starting at about 20 inches (previously at 24 inches). It was my first reel seat and EVA grip removal and ugh what a mess. In the process of sanding do
