I have built a dozen rods on MHX spey blanks and have had excellent reviews from the customers. I own and use spey blanks from most of the major vendors and my favourite rod for personal personal use is the MHX 14' 9wt.

I've built the 13' 5/6 and 7/8 on this blank. Excellent performance. After breaking two different sections of the 5/6 I repaired and retired to 'display only' status. The 7/8 remains a favorite.

Overhead casting, nymph, spey, or switch? At 10'6" RBMeiser has a nice 7/8 switch blank at a reasonable price. CTS can make anything you want, and they have great blanks.

Snake guides seem to allow knots to pass though with less interference than a single foot. Spey lines with multiple loop to loop connections may create an occasional unwanted stop during the cast. That being said, I just finished an 11 foot switch rod for personal use and used single foot guides.

I have a customer in need of a tip for his 'favorite' float rod, the Fenwick 1326. Initial research indicates replacing his tip may not be possible? (waiting on a reply from Fenwick). If I am unable to help with his tip, what blank would you suggest for a replacement?

I fish several high modulus rods here in costal BC. Most of the winter fishing is at or slightly above freezing and I have had no issues with my 13ft+ spey rods.

As Herb stated, I always use a hole-free rubberized cork for the two handed rods. I've tried several other products (even Moose antler) and this is the best solution.

Follow up to original note. It took 4 days to get an initial reply via email. I mailed them requested ferrule on 8/10, Canadian post confirmed delivery on 8/18. Called Sage today (8/26) - after a ridiculous amount of time someone answered the phone and I was informed they are so far behind that they have only opened packages received prior to 8/12. I have once again lowered my expectations w

I have need of a replacement tip from Sage - in a hurry. I have emailed and called them for the last three days. No one answers the phones and they have not replied to my email. Is this normal? Any suggestions?

Thanks for the reply Herb, CTS and Bob Meiser offer 5 pc, and very good ones. The customer is determined to have a 6 pc.

You may want to take a look at Anglers Roost UHM12 blank. I have his 13' 7/8 sf 13' 5/6 in this product and have been very pleased with them both.

I'll add another vote to Anglers Roost - best value I have found. Purchased 8-10 of them in the large (4) size for spey rods. Own several Okuma SLV's and all have less the terrific drag.

Building a 14' 10wt Spey rod with size 'b' thread. Visually it seems to be comparable to size 'a' while being somewhat easier to wrap. Who else has tried it and what are your thoughts?

I think I saw a later discussion on your previous post about using spinning and fly reels? If so, I am not the one to recommend guides. If it is for fly fishing, something like: 16mm stripper, 12mm second, then size 6 and 5 snake guides to the end, maybe a couple of 4's near the top. I have only built spey rods over the last couple of years so someone else may have better guidance on the singl

For casting fly's with sink tips I'd recommend a 9', 9 wt graphite, two stripping guides and oversized size snake guides (no single leg). Oversized guides and tip-top help with the large connections between the line and the sink tip. Light wt reels and handles can cause balance problems during the swing - it's helpful to have a little more weight in the butt of the rod if the customer agrees wit

I've built a half dozen 9' to 11' salmon and steelhead rods with the microwave guides and have received rave reviews from all who have used them.

I have found Rodbuildersupply to be the best source for building in Canada. While the American suppliers offer good prices and selection, by the time you add shipping and customs you're almost always better off to buy from Andy at Rodbuildersupply.

The loop connections on Spey lines will consistently pass through snake guides more easily than single foot. I would recommend snakes on two handed rods due to the number of connections in the line. Not as critical on single hand rods.

Are you using a 1422 or a 1442? I'm having trouble finding the 1422.

Built a 10ft steelhead spinning rod (MHX st1204) using Microwave guides for personal use. A Penn Fierce 4000 reel with 20lb Sufix 832 braid completed the package. As a life long skeptic in all things new I had very low expectations when heading to the river yesterday - but after 5 hours of casting for chrome on the Skeena - I am a believer. The line and the guides combined to give amazingly

I'm always in a search for the ultimate plunking rod and I cannot remember finding a 4 pc blank strong enough for your needs in any length. Lamiglas has some surf blanks the will get close to your needs, but they are 1 and 2 piece.

I just finished a 9'6" MHX steelhead rod that feels much like some noodle rods I used in Tennessee. They have several very light (4 to 8lb) lightweight blanks up to 12' in their steelhead listings.

50 years of fresh water fishing has convinced me that the large majority of lines break due to operator negligence . No matter what line, if it has a nick, cut, or a bad knot, it will be weakened and the next heavy pull will result in a lost fish or lure. Back in the 90's I fished a tournament on Ross Barnett and my parter that day re-tied his lure after every fish or snag. He was without qu
