1. Dilly's Rod
My test photo. This is a rod restoration for a co-worker. His dad bought it in 1961. Sort of a sentimental rebuild. He wants me to keep it as original as I can. This should be a fun project.

I'll give them a call. Does anyone have a good number??
I would have thought that there would be more than one company selling(if Shimano is actullay selling thisproduct) this type of reel seat.
If I luck out I'll post where I find them.

Yeah it's not working. You can search the Cabela's site for the Tiralejo rod and it should come up.
I tried this. It should work.

No, not the plate. It's a standard nylon reel seat.
You should be able to check this link and zoom in on the reel seat.

I cannot find the moveable/adjustable reel seats for the deck hand/surf type rods. My local rod shop had some Shimano Tiralejo surf rods that have these. The baitcaster had a trigger on it which I really like. They also do not carry them and they say it's a hard to find item.
Where can I find these?? Looking for both bait and spinning seats.
Thanks!

I see a lot about mixing and bubbles. Purchased the mototrized epoxy mixer Monday afternoon from my local rod shop and it works great! The bubbles are so reduced it makes the application and de-bubbling a lesser chore. I agree with Bruce, let the epoxy flow to the rod, although not real heavy. It's not a crime to apply multiple coats and these results too can be rearding. IE, no more footballs!

I JUST refinished an old 6 foot solid glass boat rod for a friend yesterday.
Used permagloss on the whole rod. Sanded to a good finish/used a good quality spray paint/then applied the permagloss as follows: Left hand with a latex glove, poured in some permagloss and pulled the rod trhough the left hand with my right. Did this a couple times quickly as the permagloss will get tacky in a hurry.

You guys are making me homesick! I grew up fishing Santee Cooper Lakes. Took a job that moved me to TX in 1995. Don't over look the bass/catfish action on the Cooper River itself among the old rice plantations. Action there is never at a loss. I've caught BIG stringers of largemouth there.

14. Re: invoicing
I 'KEEP' an 11x17 spreadsheet(that I seem to tweek constantly) of all the vitals of a build/repair in a customer file. I have plenty of room on the back to make notes and I fold it into an handy 8 1/2 x 11 when done.
I have a very simple invoice. I don't like to list to much and so far have no complaints. My spreadsheet has a number I match to the invoice. The invoice of course has a carbon c

Mike I peeled off the cord from the fore grip and after sanding it down I found a hairline crack in it. Cracked not to the point it would interfere with fighting fish. I'm going to use an epoxy to fill the void. I have used this on pens and bowls before with pretty good success.

I have a customers rod for a restoration project. He wants to keep it as original as possible and he also wants to keep the original aluminum reel seat. I suggested replacing the seat but he wants to keep the original.
It's a fiberglass boat rod(circa 1961). I have the guides removed already and the blank is semi sanded down so far. What looks like hickory for the grips. If I remove the fore

19. Re: epoxy ramps
My interest is piqued. What is an epoxy ramp, why do you use it, where on the rod do you use it??
Is there a tutorial or Rod Maker issue that explains this with some detail??

I have a 6 foot fiberglass boat rod(circa abobut 1961, no idea about the manufacturer) that my customer wants refinished/rebuilt. Someone before me has stripped 98% of the coating already. There are a lot of horizontal scratches on it. I removed the guides and just a little epoxy/coating left. This is my fisrt crack at refinishing any rod.
I have some fine ScotchBrite(equal too 0000 steel wool

The subject line sounds funny doesn't it?
Not so when you think about turning things on a lathe. I have not built a rod in a while(3 years, been turning pens ) but I still get my Rod Maker mag every 2 months. I have seen some crossover of crafts here in the rod handle area. Such as, snakeskin, cactus, exotic woods, acylics, exotic woods and acrylics combined just to name a few. You can pick u
