Given all that information I would not go with an 8 weight. i do not know HOW something that stiff can protect light tippets at all for trout fishing. I think your best bet is going to be a 6 weight. I have two and fish them frequently for trout that typically run to four or five pounds and for smallmouth that run about the same. I have also caught pike to 24 inches (chasing bigger this year)

Medical syringes are typically always lubricated with silicone. Stick with those that are provided by rod building companies and be assured that they will always be reasonably contaminent free

I would have to cast my eyes askance when a rep makes a claim like that...by the way, red cars get better mileage than black cars due to reduced drag.

6 weight, in my opinion, will be more than adequate. Batson has some great blanks in the RX6 two piece line. I like the feel of a full wells grip on that particular weight rod. American tackle Matrix Blanks are also nice for beginners. I have built many on the Batson though and have been very satisfied.

Ron has the best seats I have ever purchased. I am only small time compared to many building maybe 40-50 a year but I have never been disappointed.

There is a good article in the library about static placement of guides and how to go about it. I use it often in conjunction with the guide placement charts available online through places like Mudhole.

I have a metallic red RodGeeks blank and a metallic lavender blank....peruse their custom paint colors. VERY nice and well worth the extra green if you ask me. Nathan

There has been some experimentation of heating a chainsaw file or similar and placing it in the blank thus heating the glue and softening it from the inside and allowing the grip to slide off but I do not know how effective it has been in practice.

I have read (but cannot substantiate) that Minwax water based poly-acryic will do the job.

I have heard the "reach" thing before which almost makes sense...but i want to know WHO reaches all the way to the stripper in the first place. I usually, when stripping, strip from behind my rod hand in the first place. Can someone help me out here? I think I am missing something.

Simple physics when you move the fulcrum (reel seat) forward you gain weight in the rear but need a longer rear grip When you use a shorter rear grip you have to move the seat rearward...thus necessitating added weight to the butt to get it to balance.....The weight of the reel, in my mind, is not going to make that much of a difference in balance point since it IS the fulcrum. Am I thinking tha

WHOA...I guess......................... is profane...maybe I should have said that STINKS ...didnt want someone thinking I was using extreme profanity or anything. I did edit it to keep from offending those who would be. I would still like to figure out how to become the distributor for those blanks however. I have plenty of space to store them and do not see any reason I could not get them

That STINKS (just found the edit button) . I inquired once about what it would take to acquire the Sevier Tiger Eye Blanks Line but got no reply. I guess it is just better to slip into obscurity...would have loved to be the distributer for them as I have heard so much about them and they seem to be very sought after.

I have used metallics on several rods now as the main guide wrap. Works great and looks good I think. I have a friend who has been building rods for years who does very little with regular nylon anymore. You will be fine.
