Is it okay to use metalic thread as the primary guide thread? Is the tensile strenght the same as regular nylon?
Thanks
Barry

I have used metallics on several rods now as the main guide wrap. Works great and looks good I think. I have a friend who has been building rods for years who does very little with regular nylon anymore. You will be fine.

After doing just that....a few days later there was a post made stating that many of the metallics fade badly over time. Some in less than a year! Didn't make me feel good as the rods were a gift and the sun is brutal down here.

Be careful, not all metallics are equal strength.
Many of the newer ones like the FishHawk and Gudebrod HT are stronger than the early ones.
And yes, some of the colors will fade.

Best wishes,

Watch the fadiing with Metallic. I wrapped a guide with blue metallic and it faded to silver in no time flat.! The rest of the original blue metalic has not faded, just the one i did. Could have been the finish? No UV protection? Fortunatly my own rod so no big.

Not all metallics are stronger than nylon, some a much weaker. All colored mettalics will fade eventually, some faster than others, silver and gold should not fade.
