Hi All:
Been awhile since I have been here and built a fly rod. I have a friend who wants me to build him a 3wt, 6', 3 or 4 piece fly rod. Anyone suggest a good blank and components? He is willing to spend in the $200 range. Thanks, Harold Re: Suggestions on 3wt, 6' fast flyrod

MHX TFO American Tackle If you are not charging him labor all of those should fit the bill nicely Re: Suggestions on 3wt, 6' fast flyrod

there are a lot of 6'6" 2 and 3 wt multi piece blanks out there. of those i built I think the MHX is the "faster" of the bunch. finding a 6' in those specs may be a bit of a stretch. Re: Suggestions on 3wt, 6' fast flyrod

I like single foot guides on the lighter rods, snake brand is a good choice here and an all metal A7 seat and you are set. Should fit in his budget and leave a little bit for your effort, but not much.

If it has to be 6', a FAST action 6' 3wt fly blank may be very hard to find. You may want to look at spinning blanks to build as a fly rod. I would look at 1/8 oz rated, moderately-fast action, spinning blanks. Some say to take the line number and put it above 16 to find a correspondingly weighted spinning blank. I've done this before a few times and found that to be a bit too much unless you're banging out 40'+ casts regularly. Most people wanting a 6' fly rod are fishing narrow, tight quarters demanding short, precise casts. Re: Suggestions on 3wt, 6' fast flyrod

One of my clients ordered a custom CTS blank - 8'9" #3 that was the fastes blank I ever wiggled. I am sure that the formula would translete down to a 6' blank.
I was $215 for a 4 pc blank. I would be less for 6' and less for a 3pc blank. Let me know if interested. Herb U.S. Dist. cTS Fly Blanks Re: Suggestions on 3wt, 6' fast flyrod

Just a thought. I saw that Cabelas had a 6' 4 wt 2 Piece blank in their " bargain cave" under fly fishing , tackle craft. For under $40. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
