Thanks for the input guys. I I am pretty sure packing is not an issue but ill double check next rod. I never had bleed with NCP thread, only with madeira. I usually do one solid coat of CP so ill try adding another (or two) next round.. The reason I assume that is not the issue is I can see bleed through with the first layer of CP, so I cant imagine it would clear up with additional layers.

Hey guys, I have been using Madeira for a little while now and have run across issues with it and color preserver (I have been usung flex coat color preserver). Basically when I have a pattern with dark colors under lighter colors I still get some color bleed through even with color preserver. Have any of you noticed this? Is this an issue only with flex coat brand? Any advice would be app

Since you guys are the Gurus I figured i would ask here. I have a request to make a rod with a specific pattern (houndstooth) link provided below. My question is two parts: 1) have any of you seen/done this pattern? 2) if not, do any of you have advice on how I could do it (without weaving or computer software)? I know that is not making it easy but that’s why I ask the pros. Thanks St

I use the same stuff Lam. Heat was the key for me to get those glass like results (with that epoxy). I have had good luck adding the heat while mixing then applying. If needed you can add a little heat while its spinning but I have found that I don’t need to really do that anymore. Be careful heating also. It is possible to heat too much. Good luck and keep practicing, eventually it will s

Hey guys, Got a question for you all. Do any of you know if there is a company that prints custom rod stickers for wrapping, not decals (similar or the same as rod skinz)? I have an idea for a pattern that I can not find readily available and I was hoping one of you may have a direction or avenue for me to pursue in order to have a custom one made. Thanks in advance. Steve

Thanks guys. I am using some SIC knock offs that are coming from who knows where, so I really think it is just the coating that I am knocking off. I thought they wouldnt rust beings the epoxy finish is perfect, but I guess I was wrong. Billy, do you just wrap over the guides? Some times they are very bulky and have steep inlcines, what do you do in those situations?

hey guys, after you guys prep your guides do you coat them with something to prevent the guides from rusting? I recently built a few custom rods with some new guides and they are already starting to rust (after two uses). I am assuming its because i sand them down to fit them. thanks

You tube is your best friend. There is a method that is much easier. Tape a stiring straw to the blank and wrap around that 5 times. Take the tag end and run it back through the gap between the rod and the straw. Take the tag end that is on the opposite side and run it between the straw and the rod (on the opposite side you ran the first one). Lift the two tag ends up together and slide the wrap

Lorenzo I use a tip I learned from Steve Paterson and I now only burnish 2 or 3 times while wrapping. Use size d thread and surround all sides of your wrap then pack super tight and remove the d thread. When working with M metallics this helps fight burnishing too much and wearing the color causing whites spots. Just my .02. Good luck.

Not trying to hijack this thread but I want to try the bobbin technique. Is there a B&M store where I can go to pick some up. Also, which ones do I get for the traditional Gudebrod 100 yard or 1 once spools? Mudhole can't be the only place, and they can't cost 1 million apiece.

I had a similar experience about a week ago with a product that was sold out everywhere. I called Lance and he had my item shipped out the same day and I had it in hand the following day. I will def. be a returning customer as well. Thanks Lance.

I Gerald. I think Col nailed it. I have been using High Build as well and was struggling with peaks and valleys. Per opinions and advice, I have gotten a lot better with the application process and my results are now much more appealing. I thin my HB with a heater (similar to a blow dryer) after mixing and apply from a flat surface (aluminum foil). Now I get a much more smooth surface with a

Thanks guys. I actually have Steves DVD and in the very beginning it shows a couple pliers he did in a picture. I want to try to make one like those. I'll have to look around to see what the para cord guys do on their knives. Thanks.
