I don't know what blank you have, but the butt section of the Black Hole 80N I am doing now is the same OD, top to bottom.

Like Tom said...depends on how much your time is worth.
I'd probably just purchase another comparable blank.

All that, and practice. High RPM helps too.
150-200 RMP will give you instant straight and crisp finish lines, as long as you have relatively calm hands.

The easy answer is, whatever feels best to you.
Temporarily mount the seat in both directions, attach the reel, and whatever feels best to you or the user is the correct position.

Here is a third on Keven's Abalone. I just did two rods with it and used it for underwrap on every guide with no cracking. The last guide was 3.5" from the tip and about 14cm...amazing stuff.

I think the GTS70M would be a closer match. The 70H is more of a 40-80lb class blank. I have both, an

Bert, I know you said EVA, but check out Mike Pederson's carbon fiber grips...it's Riley Rods under the sponsors column. All of his spinning grips are tailored to the Aero seat.

I would imagine that you could put down a couple of layers of hard laminating epoxy, then just heat shrink grip material over it. It will probably still dent though.

Thanks for the tip. Very cool tool.

I picked one up at the expo and it works like a charm. I'm a total novice and my cores turned out perfect the first time. Just follow the detailed instructions, and it's a piece of cake!
One thing, you will want to coat the mandrel with a thin coat of petroleum jelly until it's seasoned.

Really enjoyed the seminar, and it made the process a lot more approachable. I have made 3 cores already, and should have some handles made in no time. Thanks for the inspiration!

I was awarded with a nice Lamiglas 843PRO blank. Very light blank with a fine tip, but still has some power.
It was a good time and great to meet everyone I spoke with.

The kits are really bare minimum in my opinion. You will find that you will want more and more equipment and want to try more techniques. You will soon have a shop section of your house, storage bins for parts and thread, rod blank storage, a cabinet for epoxies and the myriad of bottles and containers you obtain.
Once that proves insufficent, or just not as efficent as your mind can imagine

First, get Tom's book. It really does answer most questions you may have. If you are still interested, then build or buy a hand wrapper. purchase some inexpensive blanks and guides. Play around with wrapping the guides and decorative wrapping if you are so inclined.
While you are doing that, check out the photo section of this site. This will do 2 things...1. give you some great ideas. 2.

Good thread art is the hardest by far. May not be for some of the master artists on this site, but for me it's what seperates the masters from the rest of us. I think that and some of the incredible wood/eva handle work is the difference between just a custom made rod and a high end, one off piece of art.
Marbling looks cool, but its easy compared to real artwork.

I found them on a Chinese wholesale tackle web site. Needless to say, they aren't a sponsor of the website. Just google, "clear transparent solid epoxy glass fishing rod"

210 is probably the length...like 2.1 meters. Is it close to 7 feet long?

Has anyone used transparent Nylon thread?
