Had another Idea...you could cut off the barrel end of a 6 C cell Mag light, and fix the reel seat to it. That should give you about 12 or 13" of water tight storage.

You could make both the butt and foregrip out of "survival" knife handles that have machined aluminium caps. That can be your first section of rod. That way you have two sections of storage.
Seems a little odd, but I can picture it in my head.

For those interested in the % of stretch in different thread, the "numbers" are probably not boring.

I'm a new builder as well, and there is literally no question that you could possibly have that you can't find using the "search" feature. That said, the experts on here are very forgiving and understanding of repeat questions. I wouldn't be concerned about asking any question here if you are not 100% confident in your understanding of the skill.
Good luck with the builds.

Just twist the belt if it has one.

The boiling water trick has worked every try for me on production rods...6 times or so. Generally, I find that they are only attached in a VERY few contact points. Its kind of alarming actually.

I'm on rod 6 right now, so my opinion probably means very little, but my results have improved each time. Still not perfect, but improving.
Things that have helped the improvement:
1. Ambient room temp...the finish likes it between 75 - 78
2. Don't fuss over it...APPLY the finish to the work and let it spread out on it's own. This is hard to understand without doing it, but if you

I just dropped off some rods to my brother and he was showing me his 14' and 16' crappie rigs that he uses for jigs. They may be B n M rods...I know they make them. Perhaps contact B n M and ask were they get their blanks.

What a great idea! Sure wish you guys were doing this 25 years ago. I'm just starting out now and it sure would have been nice to have about 25 years under my belt. Then again, I didn't have the temperament for it as a kid.

74. Re: Thread ramp
Thanks for the link Barry, I should have searched first. I just wrapped it to see if I liked it, and it looked good so I didn't want to cut it off. I was hoping for some validation that it may stay put with just top coats of finish...kind of had the idea that it wouldn't.

75. Re: Thread ramp
I think you're right about the water getting in. These rods are going to be fished hard, several times a week. I should probably just keep it basic, so future repairs are easier.

76. Thread ramp
I just wrapped a ramp made strictly of thread. My concern is if it will stay in place with just top coats of finish? The blank is a GTS70M so when hooked up to a nice fish there will be some flex in that area.
Any opinions or suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks

I'm just completing my first rod, and used the Krylon Fusion. I went through 2 cans of the stuff though because I had to start from scratch after trying to protect the paint with Permagloss. lol
P.S. Don't do that...it will eat the paint up!
Sure did learn a ton on the build, and looking forward to the next.

You should check out the Quantum Cabo 30 or 40. The full model is CSP40PTSC. You can get one for about $140 and they are bullet proof. I would say they perform on the level of a much more expensive reel, and are made for the salt.
