Take a look at Dental Loupes and headlamps on @#$%&. The 3.5X with 320mm focal length are pretty good for the price. Loupes without headlamp go for around $60.00 You can find a few other types of magnifiers by noodling around and using different search keywords, like jewelers loupes, magnifier headband, etc.

Is there a commercial source for shipping cylinders strong enough to provide reasonable protection when shipping rods and blanks? PVC with a diameter wide enough to accommodate more than one item I find to be too heavy. Any advice?

When adding multiple layers of finish, do you need to sand between coats? What grit? Thanks.

I am so glad that I submitted this post before I did anything. I will complete the build as I originally intended. The butt grip is birch bark and tulipwood and already epoxied into place. As Paul says "let it be..".Thanks Roger.

I have a centerpin float rod with a 12" butt. I'd like to take about 6" off the butt to lighten it and cast easier. Doing so will decrease the action, would it not?

Tried to. They wouldn't cash it without a purchase. By this time I became curious to see if he'd return to pay, but in the future it'll be pay first.

Thank you Roger, I wasn't sure that would work, but that's what I was hoping I could do. I think I'd probably hit the blank for sure trying a spiral cut. Thanks for the response. Hope all is well HT

Last night a guy picked up a repair I did and brought two 100 dollar bills for a $25.00 repair. I'm a retired dentist and have seen all the tricks to not pay. How do you guys handle repair jobs with clients you don't know? Pay first? Greet them at the pickup time with a club??

Can anyone suggest such a blank, spinning or fly? Client wants a rod for steelhead that he can also use for streamside trout, and cast a mile. Is this even possible? Just starting to take on clients.

This is on a centerpin setup. The butt grip is already in place and it's made of birch bark, so I can't boil it. Looks like I'm going to have to cut it off. I have a dremel with a cutting wheel that should work if I can stay away from the blank. Tom K suggested a spiral cut so I thank him for that info. Here goes......
