Building another spinning rod. This one is for boondogging and jigging for steelhead. Using MICROWAVE guides for the first time. Do I set the stripping guide using the straight-edge method and the choke with Tom's 27X formula like I always do? Thanks Harry

What I learned to do was hold the blank by the butt with the tip on the floor and extended away from me at about a 45 degree angle to the floor. Gently apply pressure as close to the middle of the blank length as you can reach. The blank will roll to one side or the other. I mark that side with a grease pencil or a 1/4 inch piece of masking tape. Then I release the pressure and roll the blank a

Building my 1st fly rod. It is 11' 7wt. Do I use the same "straight-edge" method I've used to set the stripping guide on spinning rods? I think I can figure out the rest, but advice is always appreciated (i.e. usually needed). Thanks Harry

I am trying to buy cork block from Cork4U. Cannot get through by phone, and have sent two messages from their site. I need cork block in green, blue and red. Anglers Workshop is backordered for at least 2 weeks. Anyone know how to buy from Cork4U online? Or how do you order from them. Anyone have another source for cork block other than natural and brown colors? I do not want yoga blocks

Also, after going through the full series of grits to get it completely smooth , what do you guys recommend for a finish? I want to bring out any golden tones it may have. Just tried to order a lock nut mandrel from Mudhole. Out of stock, so I'll get one later. Currently I have it on a 3\8" threadsall, locked down with washers and wing nuts. I drilled a dimple on one end of the threadsall for the tailstock and I'll lock the other end into a drill chuck at the headstock. Comments?

I am still learning woodturning and am turning a birch bark grip on a Central machinery floor lathe(Harbor Freight). I am having trouble with the bark separating as I turn using a jaw chuck and spindle. I would use a mandrel but need to know how to secure the workpiece to the steel mandrel(MudHole) without the piece slipping. Any help? Thanks

I know this isn't specifically on rodbuiding, but I've read many posts here that show we have some experienced quality fishermen on board. I'm searching for the stealthiest braid with maximum castability for steelhead. Any suggestions? Is Spiderwire EZ Braid in anyone's armamentarium? Thanks

I have always used graphite for my spinning reel seats, but my next spinning build will have an aluminum seat. Are there any suppliers that have a more diverse product line for them? Also, is it possible to cut the end cap from a fly reel seat and adapt it to a spinning rod? Thanks

I am rebuilding a graphite spinning rod and need to remove the reel seat and cork grip. I think I read somewhere that boiling water may work. Any suggestions?
