Found the info I think I need right here, but is there an article on it in the library or in rodmaker?

I'd like to find a source for multicolored acrylic blocks 'n the 1.5'X1.5"X8-14" range.
Seems I remember there is a source where a person will custom cut turning blanks.
Can anyone recommend a source for making one's own acrylic?
thanks,
Harry

Should have used your mid rest. I just finished gluing up more birch bark rings to remake it. I was going to use the bark for a foregrip. Also will have to redo the tip end of the grip which is tulipwood. The butt end is ok, also tulipwood.
So I've got to reorder some more bark. Already ordered more tulipwood. I like the colors that come out with tulipwood. Thank God it's cheap. Mandrel is an in

I have just been turning a birch and tulipwood grip and find it is not true to center. The center was bored true.
Anyone have any info on what I did wrong? Also, a tip to correct this? It is to be a 14" grip for a center pin float rod. Hate to start over.
Thanks, guys.

I am wrapping double foot stripper guides and snake guides today. How can I lock the guides with the thread. With single foot guides I think it's called a fordham locking wrap.

41. photo page
I've been using the forum exclusively for so long I can't remember how to get to the Home Page or the Photo Page.
I remember my user name and PW. Think I need a different web address.
I'd like to view and post some photos; and have access to the Home Page.
Can you help me out here Tom?

Where are you located, Roger. If you are near me ,I'd like to use your local supplier. I have an online source, but the shipping costs make the purchase expensive. I just received four 4X6"X 1/8" cold rolled steel plates for $71.00. I'll use your supplier if they are w/in pickup distance; and I'll continue my search here, Portage, MI for a local source. No luck so far.
What are the d

Roger, I viewed your set up . I assume you made your center rest. What was your source for the parts, if you don't mind my asking. That is one great setup.

Tom,
Very helpful. My question though is how you set up the stock on a wood lathe to bore the center.

Roger,
Just read your comment in which you mentioned using orthodontic bands to hold guides during set up.
Can I ask what your source for the bands is?

I would boils water in a pot deep enough to submerge the grip, and boil it for a few minutes. This often works, just protect you hands.

Having trouble using my new drill press to bore stock dead center. I bought a new Black Bull 16 speed DP16UL press for about $285.00. I dragged it all over my garage floor to find a level spot. I set up the stock to drill using a three way level(horizontal bubble, front to back bubble, and a 45degree bubble). Use the level to check the drill press, set the table, check the drill press vise; use

Great advice, as usual, Gary. Currently building a couple fly rods(graphite) so I'll most likely be reaching out to you myself.

55. belt/disc sander
I'm considering a new combo belt/disc sander from Rockwell at a good price for when I need to get a perfectly level(flat) surface when making wood or cork rings from rough stock, as an example.
Anyone else use one of these in rodbuilding. I fail at getting tight seams between parts sanding by hand. Using a block, for example. Any other fool(that would be me)proof technique?
Thanks again for al

Roger, you are right. Not only that, but the taps setup for diameters greater than 1/2" will run close to $50-75, as I learned at Lowes this morning.
Thanks for the input. I thought about wrapping the threaded rod with tape, but thought it might make a mess in the bore during removal. I'll use that trick as well. I made a 3/4" steel smooth mandrel today and am using it for a center

A birch bark grip will break unless there is a mandrel, dowel, or a rod blank going through it. Doesn't really "break". The layers of bark separate. I've never had a section come loose where it was glued.
I just love these grips, what can I say?

Tom, any chance you could tell me the issues of Rodmaker with the article(s) on floating a rod?
I subscribe, but do not have an issue with such an article. I'd like to purchase the back issues, if they are still available.
Thanks,
Harry

For future birch bark grip builds, I am working out a system in which the rings are all centered and drilled with the correct diameter for the blank before I glue them all up. Tired of enlarging/reaming the glued up grip and having it separate so I have to glue again. That is just wasted time. Want to be able to maximize efficiency in all my builds.
So I need smooth mandrels in sizes not avail

I have used boiling water. This was a case where I had used Gorilla Glue instead of epoxy. Wear rubber gloves to protect against the steam. Anyway, that's my 2 cents.
