Hi all, This could be directed to Aussie builders, But I will gratefully accept any help from wherever I can. I have a Jarvis Walker Black Queen Deluxe rod, of the made in Aussie vintage, with a busted stripper guide. They were originally a #20 Fuji guide with a Black Ceramic ring. I was hoping sum one could have an old stripper guide laying around, or a full set

Hi Roger. If you are using the O rings for a belt, without much success, you might like to look at what the surfers use to tie the surf board to their leg. Not being a surfer, I am sorry but I have no idea what the name for it is. After cutting it to length you melt each end with a cigarette lighter, to melt it, then simply hold it until it runs together and joins That takes roug

Hi Robert, Just following on from other posts, it has been my experience with O rings, that the ordinary type O ring, will perish and split in a short period of time, you can get a harder grade that lasts longer. From memory it is called Duro grade. The one that I now use is the high pressure O ring, it is orange in color, at least it is here in Aussie. These O

Hi Jon, My thoughts on the which finish to use is this. Put ten rod builders in a room and ask them which finish do they like. My guess is, you will get eight different answers. Personally, I think it is more of a situation of, you taking the time to learn the things a certain finish wants to do. Not a situation of changing finishes, in the hope of finding one that s

Hi Scott, I'm with Baz on the guides, but the reel seat, I believe are still gettable, at least as recently as eighteen months to two years ago. I got one from Mudhole, if my aging memory serves me correct. The new type are not as heavy as the old version, not surprising. I had a couple that I managed to remove in one piece, but, after hanging on to them for years, gave to my boy

Hi Folks, Thank you to everyone that took the time to respond to my post. One thing I love about this forum, is the wide scope and depth of knowledge in the replies. I can tell you I have tasted success, but how, I have no idea. Over a period of time, I tried so many tips, I could not honestly say exactly which one, or a combination of which ones, worked. I tend to

Hi Folks. Have a problem that has reared it's ugly head, that of a stuck metal ferrule, that, has been fished in saltwater and not broken for what seems, many fishing seasons. Over a two week period, I have tried, the behind the knee's, over the head, soak in inox, soak in rusted on nut remover, heat, freezing with cigarette lighter gas, and boiling water. I am trying hard not to

Hi Ray, I would like to thank Col and his family for such a wonderful gift. It struck me completely out of the blue, so as to speak. It is one of my treasured possessions. Ray you do not have to wonder, if your workmanship is up to scratch, because I can tell you, Col would be very pleased with the outcome. You did an excellent job, thank you very much. Tom, Either that, or go to a solid colour, like gold on black tape for example, there are heaps of colour schemes. You can stick your fingers all over the glue underside and no one will ever know. Regards, Rod.

Hi Tom, That could be the glue on the backing showing through. I have found that a thin coat of finish on the blank, can help. Kind regards, Rod, Mboro Qld. Australia.

Hi Greg, Sandy's point is valid. Also, if you know of sum one with a Milling machine, to do a recess, would take all of about three minutes. I am fortunate enough to have a nephew with a machine shop, he has done that job for me many times. The best part is to have a cold one with him when it is finished. Kind regards, Rod. Australia

Hi Chris, No, not exactly that, but I did mix up a batch of TM finish using the lite resin and the high hardener, my excuse is that I'm old. Speaking to the vey helpful chap at RodDancer, Scott, just from memory, his advice was, it shouldn't be done, but if it cures ok, you have gotten away with it. Which it did and I have caught many fish with it over the years, without any probl

Deepest sympathies to Sue and families. The Craft has lost a true Gentleman, but, if I know Col, he already has a rod in the dryer and has been down to cast an eye over the river. You will be sadly missed, Buddy, thanks for the memories. Regards, Rod. Mboro. Qld.
