421. 30" Spinning Rod
Merry Christmas everyone,
I have a guy who has decided he wants a 30" spinning rod to tie to the side of his motorcycle during road trips. His intention is to stop randomly at irrigation ditches, small creeks, etc. and throw small spinners (1/8-3/8 oz.) to see what just might be living in the selected body of water.
I offered him a multi-piece rod, but that is a no go with him. He has se

Merry Christmas Everyone
I'm getting ready to build a 24" ice fishing rod. Will be using a spinning reel. What size guides would you use and how many? Also would you go with a slip ring grip or a reel seat set up?
Thanks Steve

Ok, heres the problem, anyone know where I can find cork in about 1" diameter with the smallest ID hole possible? Like 1/8in or even a little smaller? Making some smelt poles and well, the blanks are pencil lead thin and just don't like how the 1/4" grips I have are workin.
thanks,
steve

426. Children's rods
What type of blanks do you recommend for children? I'm looking for something that a 5 year old and a 3 year old can use. It will probably need to be shorter than the 5 1/2 foot blanks that I am finding. I'm just looking for a rod that can handle small catfish (2 lb and under), bluegills, crappie and small bass. Would a 36-42" ice fishing blank be worth fixing up for them? They just need some

427. Swish rods?
I'm sure not many of you have heard of them But they are popular here in wisconsin for Ice fishing deep water. I'm looking to find some of the reels that were used on them. I have tons of people wanting custom swish rods but the company went out of buisiness years ago and the people that have them think their swish rod is gold so they wont sell them. The reels are made of stamped aluminum not the

I nee a little help organizing this project.
My sons Boy Scout troop wants to go ice fishing this winter.
Most of the boys lack the equipment. What we are thinking is to have a rod building night. I figure the rods would go together in no time and then each boy has one to use.
I've only found one suppplier that carries the blanks, reels handles and guides. Any suggestions for places to look.

I read an article in a recent issue of a fishing magazine that talked about older gentlemen overcoming issues that might have kept them from fishing. One older fella had lost some feeling in his hands from a back injury. To help detect strikes, he had a rodbuilder put a graphite ring in the handle in place of a couple cork rings. The graphite of course would transmit any strike sensations to t

435. Ice fishing blanks
I purchased a fifty dollar blank grab bag from Merrick and what a great buy for fifty bucks. I got seven Rainshadow blanks all different. I also got a dozen ice fishing blanks that are 13 inches long. I've never seen any thing like those, but certainly don't need them in N. C.
I would send them (no cost, freight prepaid) to anyone that would like to have them.

I'm thinking of assembling a new ultralight spinning rod. I have an ugly stick and a rod I assembled a few years back using a Shakespeare graphite blank. The ugly stick 5'6" is a good rod with the shakespeare blank I assembled a little better in that it is more sensitive and casts slightly farther. Both rods are pretty much limited to 1/16th ounce or greater lure weight. What I'd like t

I'm building my 3rd rod, and decided to try my hand at a spinning rod with the concept guide spacing (2 previous rods were fly rods). So I bought all the guides, every size from fuji alconite size 6 to 30 (6 size six's by the way... and did you know that some places you can buy individual sizes and they are cheaper than if you bought them in the set???). Put the choke guide on... put 3 guides f

I've done a minor amount of rod work in the past. Now I have several broken rods saved up and I was thinking of stripping the guides off and reusing them on new blanks, But I don't know if I could save any or all parts of the handle/ reel seats. These are all spinning blanks.

I was just wandering if anyone still uses their first they ever built and what was the outcome of the rod.
I still use the first rod I built. It actually is my favorite and most used rod. After I built it, I thought to myself that it looked pretty good. Now that I have a little more experience, all I can do is laugh at what I did. The guides aren't straight, they're not spaced like they should b

I have a client that has several rods that need tip tops replaced. These are I guess what you'd call "Microlite" rods. The tip of the blank measures about .042" in diameter. Rich of Richard's Rods and Reels helped me out last time, but states he doesn't have any more that size. John Britt sent me some he had, but they are too large. I have gleaned my various supply catalogs an
