I am in the process of building my first ice fishing rod. I have a fly rod tip section for the blank, cork for the handle, but not sure what kind of guides would be appropiate to use for ice fishing. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks Mike

Bummer guys, guess my original message is gone because I didn't post under my full name or something. What I'm looking for is information on how to make a spinning rod out of a fly blank. What kind of specs. should I be looking for in a fly blank if I want to do this? A guy wants me to make him a bass/all-around spinning rod specifically with a Fenwick blank, but I can only find Fenwick f

Tell us all what you got. I got a desk lamp from Fry's electronic. It has a magnifying head on a goose neck shaft with a built in florescence light. It is compact, easy to move, can be twisted any way you want, takes up very little room and magnifies wonderfully. Hope Santa was good to all of you.

Wondering if you should wait longer before taking a new rod out ice fishing than you would taking it out in warm weather (I just finished the rod - I don't have to wait for ice).

I'm looking for recommendations for a tool to make and reconstruct closed-loop wire-shaft spinning lures. I have done a bit of research, but the information in the catalogs and on the net,is sketchy. I don't think I need something as advanced as the Hagen Pro Wire Former, but if the consensus says to go with that, then I would give it serious consideration. If anyone could point me to a site that

I am interested in building some ice rods for my brothers-in law. They are avid ice fishermen and generally fish for panfish. I am clueless on the type of blank to use and am having trouble finding info. I would really appreciate some advice! Thanks

I'd like to build a short < 3' fly rod for indoor casting practice. Wulff (Fly-O) and Mel Kreiger (Mel-O)made cheap outfits. J. Austin Forbes makes a very expensive outfit ( ) I'm thinking a VERY light tip section might do it. Has anyone tried something like this? Any ideas, suggestions for components, experiences? Thanks, Tony

Okay folks, if you are looking for some quality kits, and allow me to choose from the fine array of blanks and components that I am allowed to discount, then you're in luck. I'll do my best to accomodate parts you'll like for the custom rod you can build. I want to clear some stock in order to make room for new 2005 stock coming in, so there are blanks here that can go with the kits for half o

HELP!!! I've taken up a new hobby, building ice-fishing rods. I have never done any of this before so I expected lots of mistakes. At least I have not been disappointed...lol Okay, I'm turning down the handles on a wood lathe, the problem is that I can't get the hole drilled into the handle straight. I have tried drilling after the handle is turned, I've tried drilling the hole in the square han

400. Ice Rod
First, I do not stand out in winter conditions and ice fish, however I have been asked to make some Ice Rods. I ordered and got a St Croix Ice rod and it feels a little stiff but I don't know that much about them. I made a cork grip with slide rings and attached some size 12,10,8,8 guides with the tip that came with the rod. It still is stiff, but maybe thats the way there suppose to be. Any help

Going to do an ultralight fly rod this fall during vacation time. I've decided to go spin/fly, but don't like the idea of: 1. Cutting the blank on such a light rod (shortens the fly rod), and 2. The ultra long foregrip (7 inches), that a plug in spin butt section would result in. So I'm going with a wooden Tennessee style handle. Any thoughts from you guys? I intend to make the handle here while

Has anyone built any Euro Style Carp rods on any of the blanks made here in the USA? Typically these are 11 - 13 feet long, with lots of power but not as powerful as surf rods. Thanks, Phil Ptak

A Bass Pro, wants a 3' rod to cast under docks etc., in tight situations. He even suggested cutting off an SCV blank. I can't imagine doing that to an SCV. Have any of you ever made something like this? John Butterfield

I am looking for cork reamers. The commercial ones I've found are usually too large in diameter. Are there any available which are smaller? I could make them, but I don't have the blanks to spare. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Rick L.

I just finished viewing the 'CC variations' post. The comments on the the hand work involved in finishing a blank (triming & sanding) reminded me of a question I have thought about for some time. Can a blank be safely altered by sanding? I have viewed this site for several months have seen warnings about sanding too much in refinishing & possibly weakening the blank by removing the graphit

Has anyone rolled up rainshadow seconds? Are they more of the blemished finish or not quite within tolerance butt and tip-wise or the less structurally sound type seconds? Sorry for the complicated question, I just seen these today and would like to make some rods to have on hands for friends that don't fly fish much without giving them one of my sticks that I have a strange attachment to. I r

I'm thinking about building a trolling rod for muskies sometime this summer, and would like some opinions on a good blank. What I'm looking for is a 9-10 foot blank that can handle 12 to 14 inch baits trolled at 4mph. I'm currently using a 9ft cabela's rod that is made for dipsy divers, it does a good with spinnerbaits but it has a tough time with the big baits. I was thinking about going with

I need help guys. Does anybody know of a finish (traditional or otherwise) that can be fished 24 hours after application? Some buddies want to go ice fishing so I threw together some rods for them but don't have time to use the LS I normally would. The finish doesn't have to be very high performance as these rods are salvaged from spare parts and will probably only be used a few times. Thanks

Can anyone tell me where I can find a Coat and Bibs made for fishing like the pros wear on TV? Here in Wisconsin Its still freezing cold come april when the First tournament hits. I think they are water proof also and work as rain gear. I looked at bass pro, cabelas, gander, and did a search with no luck.

Sorry to bother you all again, but... I have been trying to use Prizm's hologram thread for a little trim, but having a bugger of a time. There must be an easier way to use it than what I am doing. I have tried wrapping like thread but it doesn't want to wrap over itself to start and when pulling it under to finish it, it will break, stretch or leave an ugly lump. I tried using a small dot of gl

I am considering renting a booth to allow builders to display their work, be present in booth to meet potential customers on a schedule, distribute advertisement and in general showcase the work of small builders. I would like for you to communicat

I'll be getting married in Montana in July 2005 and want to build my groomsmen rods. I've built a Sage VPSL 3 pc 4 wt for my father as a birthday gift and bought all of it piece by piece. This time cost is the issue. Please provide links or information for finding cheap kits or components. I only want to invest 100 bucks total in the rod reel and line combo. so I guess 50 - 60 bucks for the
