91. Expo Update
We're still 3-1/2 months out from the Expo and with the Covid19 situation a concern for many if not most builders around the world, I fall back on the only way I have ever known to do things - full speed ahead. Thus, without knowing where things will stand at the end of February, preparations for the Expo remain ongoing. As of today, November 13, the early exhibitor list is as follows:

The "expoxy over label" posted earlier reminded me of my own question.
I just used a blank in a build that came with a label that's not to my taste, it's just too big and long.
I'd like to label the rod very simply, like "905" to cover the length and weight.
Any suggestions on where to get decals or labels for something simple like that? Does Hobby Lobby carry that ty

Hello All,
Does anyone have a Video tutorial on applying finish over Rod Labels and long areas. I am still in the Trial and error stages of this process. I have been successful in the rest of my finishing techniques. My Guide wrap finishes are nearly perfect but I still struggle getting Long areas flat. The build I just finished I used Flex coat CP on the Blank before applying labels and applie

I would like to give a shout out to Debbie at Decal Connections, she designed my rod decal yesterday and sent me a sketch along with pricing not 15 minutes after I first called her yesterday. Great ands friendly customer service. If you need decals she is the person to talk to.

Tried Flex Coat Lite for the first time and two coats on the guides look good, the problem is it did not come out well over a long decal. I put the decal down and covered it with a two thin coats of CP which worked out well, the problem occurred when I applied the Flex Coat Lite over the CP it came out lumpy and inconsistent. I tried removing as much as I could and ran a flame by the finish but i

Just received my first custom decals from Decal Connection. They were great to work with. The instructions say to put a coat of epoxy or CP on the blank where the decal will go.
Has anyone noticed a difference? Is one easier to work with than the other for applying the decal over?

99. Rod Labels
I want to make some labels for rods to note rod details, CCS values, owners name, etc. I searched and found some discussions on the forum, but they are older. Saw some references to label makers like the P-touch, the K-sun, and inkjet printing. What are people using and how satisfied are they with the results? I was hoping to not sink hundreds of dollars into this venture. I especially like

Looking for small, like 1 to 1.5”, that would work on an inshore rod. I think Mudhole used to have but not anymore.

There have been a number of posts concerning contamination and fish-eyes while using epoxy which I have replied to in hopes of helping those afflicted. I have never personally experienced contamination problems while rod building assuming it was due to my regiment of cleanliness, UNTIL NOW. I am convinced my epoxy woes were due to the use of blue tape (3M if it matters).
For whatever reason, I d

Hi,
I'm new to rod building and seeking advice on the best way to get custom text onto a rod blank. I am planning on building mostly for others, so I would like to add text such as "Custom Built for John Smith" and messages of the like. I really think they add a personal touch. My question is what is the best way to achieve this? My first build I bought a decal from mudhole and it w

117. Brand name
I've just started building rod so this probably won't be an issue for a while, but I was wondering if it was legal for me to build rods from the suppliers online (mudhole, Fitbit, ect) and put my "brand" on it, or will this be infrequent? Some guys I work with think I need to jump on a brand name and put them on the rods I make.

118. Applying decals
I’m finishing up my first rod. Today I put the decal on and as much as I thought I was taking my time and getting air bubbles out I still had a few. I tried heating up the decal and use the burnishing tool to smooth things out. No luck. Mud Hole is sending me a new decal. Any suggestions to make it go better? I was also thinking of just using a quill pen to inscribe the rod specs.
Thanks.

119. 3 Great Vendors!!!
I am one to give credit where credit is due and presently, Decal Connection, Anglers Workshop and The Rod Room are on top of my list!
The decal ordered from DC was professionally produced, just as envisioned, very closely and neatly trimmed so I did not have to, affordable, customer support was friendly yet professional, and the order was received is less than 4 days from the other side of the
