Thanks for letting me join. I have a newbie question. I am building a rod with a weave pattern between split grips. Based on advice elsewhere, I have completed the weave and will soon put on the grips. I don't want a lot of epoxy, so I am attempting the taping method. Most of what I have read is that Winn Grips (and all EVA, for that matter) need to be reamed out to a diameter slightly

Last year I built the PB691MLXF and absolutely love it. This year I want to build it's "big" brother - the PB691MXF . Since the rod length is the same, and the reel size will most likely be the same (25 size), would it be safe to say I could use the same guide train - KL 16H, KL 8H, KB 5, KT4 (×6) and a LG 4(5) tip - and the same spacing?

I was working out in the shop over the Holiday break from work and started to think about the differences of each handle material from both a builders and anglers perspective. All of the following is my personal opinion or observations from personal experience. I have only been building for two years and would like to know your thoughts as well. Rod building: I have not turned my own cork

Ok so I have a few grips I plan to use on upcoming builds, the CFX and the Carbon Fiber Batson grips..... So I have NEVER used these on a rod before, I am accustomed to cork or EVA, or even a WINN grip. So opting to try out the Carbon Fiber grips would be stepping out for me. That being said, aside from ascetics, do these serve much of a purpose. I rarely have my hands on the grips unless I a

I am having trouble finding a rod I like. I am familiar with rod building basics and am looking for a advice for a 7’ to 7’6” blank for redfish/trout fishing from a kayak. The new rod specs are confusing, but I need it to be able to handle occasional abuse from grandchild, So not looking for high end loomis but would like something better than Walmart off the shelf. Thanks in advance. PS have

Hello, I'm planning a spinning build (dropshot rod for bass) and am considering the AT AERO seat. This will by my first spinning build, and I haven't handled an AERO seat or something similar. Does anyone know of a factory rod with this style of seat that I can go handle? I see that BPS has a couple of their branded rods with a hump that somewhat resembles the AERO hump, but that's the cl

Installing my first Winn grip: will it stretch as much as EVA, or do I need to ream it until it fits in place?

What's your favorite handle material? Are you a traditionalist and prefer cork? Maybe you like the tacky grip of the Winn handles. Maybe a plain black EVA is more your style. Have you gone to the dark side and built with carbon fiber materials? Let's here some of your favorite handles and why you like them! Feel free to post opinions on handle materials you don't like too!

Looking for feedback from anyone who has used these two blanks - haven't held either - both 7'MH. Will be build with casting - split Winn grips, ECS seat, and Alconite guides (prob K's with size 5.5 runners as I run 30lb braid to leader most of the time). Looking for overall sensitivity and how they balance with a 10" rear handle. This is a rod for me personally and I will be building wit

The G2 Carbon Handles and Compressed Carbon Tech G2 reel seats by the American Tackle Company are redefining the fishing rod handle as you know it. We brought these and they were available at ICRBE for the first time and the response was AMAZING! The handles utilize carbon material construction while the CCT seats use genuine carbon injection molded Compressed Carbon Technology to provide

I have installed Winn Grips on several rods over the years and they have held up well, but I have a few that are starting to show their age. They are worn and the grips have become rough. What is the best way to remove them, so I can install new grips? I am not talking about the Winn Grip overwrap, but the actual Winn Grip rear and butt grips. Thanks for any advice.

I am putting together a order list to build a rod using Winn Red/Black grips. Any recommendations for which red ProWrap thread color would match the red in the Winn grips. Thanks in advance for any recommendations.

With the amount of injected grips on commercial rods, I am wondering if there are any such grips available for the rod builder. With the relatively short life of Winn grips, and the non suitability of EVA and Hapalon grips for some uses, I was wondering if the use of such injected grips as found on some of the commercial rods would make sense for the low volume rod builder?

I check the site daily to see if any new specials appear but haven't seen any recently. The best was when they had the unfinished grab bag blanks. Anyone know if something like that is going to occur in the near future?

I'm looking for some Do's and Don'ts for building a surf rod. Resources are limited to parts and pieces and Ive been doing this long enough to know that I should put my ego in my pocket and let the opinions fly before I tackle a 10' project. Customer wants a 10' (2) piece spinning set up with EVA grips. The SU1207F-2-MHX is his first choice and I am a long time believer in Fuji components. If yo

About to consider cork or Winn grips for uplocking VSS spinning reel seat build. But i am concerned with the durability of using the Fuji Winn Grips. I know cork will stand the test of time but how about Winn? Have a rod with Tour Star grips that are falling apart after three years and a few winns showing age. Not sure its worth it in the long term.

I need to ream some large grips. 3/4-7/8 -1 inch. My reamer set is only good up to under 3/4”. Looking for where to fine larger reamers, don’t have any blanks large enough to make one. How do you guys do this? Need to do both cork and Winn grips. I’d rather not use cork rings if I don’t have to. Thanks

Wonder if there is a source of carbon fiber grips in orange and black. I don't make enough rods to try and learn how to make them and invest in the needed tools and supplies. Would be for a spinning rod med light split grip. Aprox 4 inch rear grip 1.5 inch fore grip and 1.5 butt. I like the forecast designs and will go with their black grips if need be. But would sure like to find something simi

I've got an earlier generation Winn Grip in my stock that was probably created for saltwater use as it has the older octopus pattern. I'm inclined to use it as a fore grip on a rod I'm building for myself for a change. But this grip, as I suspect is the case with all Winn Grips, appears to use EVA for a base grip material. This stick will be used for big tuna, and as I anticipate may need to be p
