I have been watching videos on wrapping and have a question. I sometime hear negative comments about pre-gluing guides to the blank prior to wrapping; however, I have sen it done in several instructional videos. I am having problems keeping the guides on while wrapping small double footed casting guides. They are so small that if I do tape it well I am unable to leave any room to start the wra

First, I am brand new to rod building, so total idiot. I have been reading a lot and feel like a sponge, absorbing what I can. I also want to take advantage to some sales happening in the next month to grab a few blanks to supply my winter attempts at building. I want to try the NFC blanks and a Point Blank which seems to get rave reviews. They are easier to order with limited choices. So

Are you a serious inshore or offshore angler wanting to improve your performance on the water casting further and more accurately??? American Tackle went back to the drawing board and introduced the MW25 Guide System to provide a happy medium between the award winning MW20 and MW30. What we came up with was phenomenal guide system perfect for the saltwater anglers, especially the anglers throw

Hello all, I'm trying out the KR Guide System for the first time and I've noticed something when using the GPS for KR Guides. I don't seem to have a selection for 40lb braid which is what the customer for will be using with this rod. The options that GPS gives are 20H, 10H, and 5.5M for 15-20lb braid (the largest I could select). If I selected 10-14lb mono (closest line size diameter to what th

I am having trouble finding a rod I like. I am familiar with rod building basics and am looking for a advice for a 7’ to 7’6” blank for redfish/trout fishing from a kayak. The new rod specs are confusing, but I need it to be able to handle occasional abuse from grandchild, So not looking for high end loomis but would like something better than Walmart off the shelf. Thanks in advance. PS have

To begin I’m mostly a bass fisherman. How do you guys feel guides impact a finished rod? Now I’m not talking poor guide spacing, guides to large, etc. that will definitely impact a rod. I’m more looking for insight on materials. I’m just a novice builder only have the time to build for myself and keep things basic and clean. In all my builds I’ve always used Fuji SS alconites and recently s

I am working on a 4 piece fly blank casting rod that is 9 feet #9 weight that I will simple spiral wrap. Upon static testing and bending the blank, the transition guide rides downward into a more extreme position. I was wondering if I should leave it in the extreme position it takes when it's under a heavy load, the normal 90 degree placement, or split the difference? Guide spacing was sp

Allow me to offer a little background of carbon fiber (CF) and fiberglass (FG) and then compare the two, hoping to explain and eliminate some of the misconceptions. Concerning our fishing world, FG became the new state-of-the-art material for blanks in the late1940s and quickly displaced the use of previously premier split-cane bamboo; FG was lighter, immensely less labor-intensive = lower cost,

Hi all. Recently purchased a NFC FW 662-2(IM LMX) and I am building this for a friend. He fishes spinners on 4 pound test in colorado for trout, and uses a 1000 series Shimano Stradic Ci4. I have gotten so much information on this board over the last few years and I try to contribute what I can. Anyway I want to get him the best guides I can,and I am open to suggestions. Thanks in advance! Robe

Many of you know that I've been hanging around on this forum for almost a decade now and other than Fuji and POINT Blank I don't talk much about other products...if ever. But recently, Flex Coat introduced its Dual Control Wrapping/Finishing Variable Speed DC Motor with foot control. I had many long discussions with Roger and John and Craig about my limited capability at the bench and I have open

Greetings folks! I had a custom rod building business back in the late 1990s and into the very early 2000s based in the Midwest US. I specialized in light and ultralight rods, particularly spinning, and built for a few bank fishers in the Chicago area who wanted European-style match fishing rods (long, fast action, light tips, tiny guides). I even made several rods (and did a lot of repairs) f

I have been reading the forum for a while now without posting and have finally had enough of people spouting RUBBISH about how the spine doesn't matter.. It does matter - a LOT I tested all my rods by hand and those that had a strong spine which weren't spine built torque twisted horribly under load - the effect was obvious, horrible, and very detrimental - basically a terrible lack of sensiti

Let me start by saying I understand that the following question is completely objective. I’m new to rod building. I have 5 rods under my belt and love it. I have spent hours upon hours searching blanks and researching everything rod building related. I know my favorite rod certainly wouldn’t be everyone else’s favorite rod but would still like to know what you like. For someone to say “THIS” i

hey all. Quick question - working on adding guides to my 7 ft 3 casting rod. The stripper is a Fuji RV6. I've had folks tell me it should be 20 inches from the reel seat and others say 24 inches. Was wondering what your opinions are. Also, should I be measuring from the middle of the reel seat or where the line is actually coming out of the reel, or somewhere different? Thanks!

Previous thread is on page 12 I have made some rods and had some made since my last post. I had a rod built from a Point Blank PB701MLF. Fuji titainum guides and fuji handle. Feels great in your hand but just a little stiffer than what I am looking for. Bought another point blank blank, a PB701LXF. Thought it would be lighter. WRONG! It should have been rated a medium. Some one is getting a very

The rod I just built is working great and i really like it so far with the limited use, when I built this I used a KT 10 and after that 3 KB 5 for the 60, 120 180 positions and KT 5 for the rest of the guides. My question is would it perform better if I used a KT 5.5 for the 60 degree position and then 2 KB for the 120 and 180 and rest KT. The reason I went with all the runners after the stripper

Finally after over a year of reading every post I finally finished my 1st rod, a rainshadow HS9001 for walleye rigging. KR concept with micro guides aero17 handle (because I destroyed my cork) and just used the recommended guide spacing. I do not think static placement would have done any better. More sensitive than top of the line off the shelf rods by far....my engineering skills failed for my

Hello everyone! I'm new to the forum. I am currently building my first spinning rod after numerous fly rods. I like the Fuji BCKLAG guides however they are only in the larger sizes such as 12 through 25. What guides and tip top compliment the BCKLAG so I can get sizes 8,7, and 6 for the upper end of the rod.? All help is much appreciated. Thanks Josh

Got a UL blank sitting around Rainshadow Revelation REVS72UL-2SB. Blank was not exactly what I was hoping for found a MHX I like better. Anyways since the blank did not fit my vision I figure I will maybe experiment with different components. One thing I am considering is the Airwave guides. The concept seems good. I am sure they are heavier than my go to Minimas. Not going to be weight obsesse

I’m starting on another lipless crankbait build. Going to use a PacBay Mjnima guide train on a Rainshadow REVCB70M to throw 1/4oz traps and UL Rippin Raps. I was thinking about using one size 6 Model T and size 4 Model F’s the rest of the way with a size 4 top. Not sure if this is the best layout, so any help is greatly appreciated.

I am going to build a CTS float blank, 13’ 4~8lb, but using 2500 size Daiwa spinning reel and not centerpin. 1. I am going to use mono and braid line, is it OK to use KR guide concept? As I would like to try the KR setting. (Read somewhere that KR is only for braid?) 2. I looked for Fuji KR guide placing charts as well as KR GPS. But what I found the spacing recommendation is only

Am the only person having problems wrapping past the barb on the single foot of the two foot KW model. As I wrap past the barb the thread "falls" down the barb and is very difficult to pack. I have been filing the barb so it is more gentle. I never thought of mentioning it to Donny at Anglers Resource - but even if I did - I doubt if Fuji factory would correct it. It is a real PITA
