I watched a you tube video to watch hue to paint with a spray gun. He was using a double window fan with a central air filter in front of it. Seemed to work well but was clogged throughly went he was dobe

No the spec sheet just says what you say however there is somekind of chart that says if you thin paint for 1.3 needle that ifs the same consistency for a 1.0 detail gun. Thanks for responding you have been a big help! I don't like candy canes! I have been watching a lot of you tube videos to adjust gun correctly.. We will see PVC sounds interesting

Ok thanks! So I just mix it to the spec sheet? I was reading somewhere else that there is a conversion chart for detail guns 1.3 standard size = 1.0 detail gun. I believe hok recommends a 1.3 needle so I don't know what to do with my .6 needle gun. Just have to try it I guess. No I didn't order a quart for one rod! I ordered 2 quarts!! I want to paint more than one blank. Thanks for explination

Thanks for response! When you say sealer is that primer or something else? I may order small amount of hok clear for the reasons you mentioned above. I am new to this is there another brand of paint that does cover better? The hok paint does look awesome though. I have been prowling the auto paint forums to see if I need to reduce paint and clear beyond manufacturer specs to pass through my t

One more question... Should I spray the rod while its spinning on a drying machine (18rpm). Would this help keep the coat even?

I just got my two purple harbor freight touch up guns.. Ordered my quart kit of Klasskote.. Ordered my house of Kolors metalic blue paint .. I am sure there will be a rod painting help 3! Ha thank you everybody! I also appreciate that tutorial on how to spray permagloss. I'm sure people will appreciate that. I myself will stick with 2k clear as I have had no luck with permagloss and now am phobi

I found the ls to be just as hot as pg or at least they both stripped the paint off the blank with the greatest of ease. I tried two blanks sprayed with krylon plastic and clear krylon and they both took the paint right off blank. They are both rather awesome for unfinished rod blanks! No noticable difference there.

It has been about 4 days since the clear was sprayed and it has gotten noticabily harder. While I feel this will work out ok on the future I think I will get a spray gun. Any suggestions on that would help Home Depot has a kit for like 80 bucks with regulator and cleaning kit. I may try that. If anyone knows of an affordable gravity gun that would be good for base and clear please let me know. Tr

This is a large saltwater rod so the weight isn't that noticable. Actually I really can't tell the difference from before.

Spraymax sells a fast cure can of 2k and a regular or slow cure. This was the standard slow cure. Web info says it dries in half an hour but doesn't say anything about cure time.

Really and the permagloss doesn't strip the paint off.. That's awesome gotta try that. How long do you allow paint to dry before permagloss application? Tom thank you for talking me off the ledge! It seemed strange that the two part epoxy finishes that a lot of people rave about like aftcote and prokote could never pass the thumb nail test. I have been debunked!

I would like to start by thanking everyone who responded to the last thread as it was greatly appreciated. I ended up using tamiya r/c polycarbonate paint on the blank I painted. I then used spraymax 2k clear over that three coats a half hour apart. I followed all the directions on spraymax can to the letter. The blank has now sat for 36 hours at 64-68 degrees. Problem- it isn't hard. Now exac

I just want to say I was not bashing this stuff either. Yeah I know I should have tested it but I get antsy in the pantsy and had to try it. This was a 20-40lb rod with double over wrap guides. It took me six thin coats to cover the thread. I know I did something wrong but not sure where it went wrong. I think this is the future of coating

I tried and tried to apply it in a bubble free way but couldn't do it. Ended up stripping the rod and redoing with flex coat. I am only saying that I couldn't use this someone else may be able to.. I will follow this thread most closely... Btw I was using a brush to apply

Don thanks for the tip to use Tamiya paint! I just read the 2k clear will burn off acrylic paint. The last question I have would be if I should use an adhesion promoter or not? I will do my best to wet sand down the blank to keep weight down although it is a rather large saltwater blank the weight increase may not mean that much.

Ok wow lots of good ideas. I ordered some tamiya spray and a bottle of super max 2k gloss finish. This seems the easiest route. I would love it if body shop guy would paint it but he won't do it. I live in NY, no one is friendly (ha). I will post how this comes out. Tom I would normally agree with you about weight and stuff but this tangerine brown color just doesn't work for me.

Well here I am finally upset enough to consider painting rod blanks. Some blanks are just awesome but come in (my opinion only) horrible colors. Therefore i now need to decide to get an airbrush kit, use spray paint, or a spray gun. I am leaning toward the airbrush only because it is only a few blanks that i want to do. I tried to use spray paint before- then put on permagloss which burned the pa

I would look at the Rogue spin jig blanks. I have one I use for a different application and its awesome! That being said I have only caught ten walleye in my life and none were bigger than 10 inches long. I like the rogue spin jig because it has power and I can pull fish from structure fairly easily. I don't know if you need to do that because I don't no poop about walleye fishing except what I s

Wow! Thanks so much everybody! I really had no intention of opening a can of worms here. I understand a lot of this is contraversial in a way. I appreciate all the practical advise. I don't think that these guides will be the right for this blank however if I was building a largemouth rod I would be taking a longer look at them. I really feel that I just got caught up in the "new thing"

I have been looking into using micro guides for a 70L seeker hercules. This blank is rated 15-30 and I would be using 30 pound braid on a 400 bsv calcutta. As I will have to do a fair amount of casting I am worried about using micro guides because I feel they will rob distance. I have been reading on how to set up a rod with these and I keep seeing things like " acceptable amount of line sla

Wow thanks everyone.. Thanks for taking the time out with those responses. I have heard that guide height is more important than ring size but I never thought my stripper ring could be smaller than 25 regardless of ring height... I'm going to order a bunch of guides and try them out. I will also avoid titanium as they are too expensive to practice with.

Oh boy... I have a graphite lamiglas blank that 10-25 line rated that I would like to build for inshore fishing. I would like to get a set of the fugi titanium k frame guides for this as it will see frequent use and guides on last rod corroded fairly quickly. I would like to bring the guides down to size 6. My other problem is I am using a reel with a particularly wide spool (us reel). Now I woul

It looks like I stated some things incorrectly. I meant to say that I build saltwater rods rated 15-25 and up. Most are rated 20-40 or 15-30. Bnlg guides... Ok. I need to sing up for this magazine it's always one step ahead of my questions! I have run into resistance when presenting saltwater rods to people with fly guides.. There is unbridled predjudice against this regularless of my best explin
